PAR REPORT
Roosevelt’s PAR (Parents at Roosevelt) had an evening meeting on Monday this week.  Chris provided a report on the middle school common schedule.  The district will delay pursuit of a common middle school schedule to allow more time for consideration and teacher input.  The district will move to a new student information system next year called Synergy, which will facilitate communication between students, teachers, and administration.  Budget estimates will be available soon from the district and Chris will develop a staffing plan based on those numbers.  Larry Banks, EEF coordinator, reported that we are short of our $100,000 goal, but will continue to seek donations.  The funds are an important part of developing a staffing plan for next year.  Lynn provided a Showcase update.  Many parents are working very hard to make it a successful night.  A volunteer sign up website is available to allow parents/family members to sign up to help out on the evening of Showcase (SEE SHOWCASE SECTION BELOW).  PAR is considering hosting an evening parent-education meeting in May.  There are a couple community events coming up of interest:  Legislators on the State Ways and Means committee are traveling around the state to hear comments on the budget, including school funding.  They will be in Eugene on Friday, April 12, 3:00-4:30pm, LCC, Ragozzino Performance Hall.  Also, the South Willamette Street Improvement Plan Committee is hosting its third public forum at South Eugene High School on June 11 from 6-8.

SCHOOL BOND

School Bond Measure on May Ballot
A measure that would provide local funding for Eugene public schools is on the May 21 election ballot.
The bond measure, Measure 20-210, would allow the Eugene School District to:
·       Replace aging buildings that are worn and costly to maintain
·       Provide better instructional facilities for students
·       Support effective classroom instruction by acquiring updated technology and instructional materials
·       Address student safety and security across the district
If the measure is approved, property tax rates for Eugene School District bond debt would increase by about 24¢ per $1,000 assessed value. Property taxes would increase by about $42 a year for the median homeowner in the district, with an assessed value of $174,000.By law, bond money can only be spent on capital facilities (such as buildings, athletic fields and parking lots), equipment and technology. It cannot be used to pay for teachers, school days or school programs.

Ballots will be mailed to registered voters beginning May 3 and must be returned to the county elections office or an official ballot drop box by May 21, 8 p.m.
