Roosevelt has had several students infected with Whooping Cough.  Whooping cough is a serious respiratory infection caused by a type of bacteria called Bordetella pertussis.  The infection causes violent, uncontrollable coughing that can make it difficult to breathe.
Signs and symptoms include:
  • Usually starts with a sore throat with a mild feeling of tiredness.
  • Runny nose, sneezing, coughing and low grade fever.
  • It is a contagious respiratory tract infection that is transmitted by coming into contact with fluids from someone who is infected.
If your child has not had the Tdap immunization to protect against whooping cough, call your doctor’s office or a clinic below for an appointment.  Please give an updated immunization record to your school as soon as your child gets the Tdap vaccine.   Thank you!
