LIBRARY AND OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books)
From the Roosevelt Librarian, Meredith Coelho
Dear Roosevelt Community,
We need library volunteers! Our specific need is for people who can supervise and check-out books from 8:15 to 8:55 a.m. at least one day a week- ideally the same day each week. Also- as we get closer to our Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) kick-off, I’ll be needing volunteers who can help set-up the library and clean-up after. That will happen on Wednesdays; set-up is 11:30 to 12 and clean up is 12:30 to 1:15 or so. When the battles start, I will need moderators to run the competitions. It’s a fun job and quick- from 11:45 to 12:35 on Wednesdays. That will start in January.
If you can help out, please email me, call or stop by.
I’d like to send out a big thank you to those people who have already stepped up to the plate! We can’t do this without you!

ULTIMATE FRISBEE
RMS Ultimate Frisbee is back!  Starting Tuesday, September 17, the Roosevelt ultimate frisbee team will practice Tuesday and Thursdays, after school, until 5:00, on the field next to the D Gym.  New and returning players are welcome!  Ultimate is co-ed and easy to learn, and we need new players to replace last year’s 8th graders who are now playing ultimate at South.  Beginners are welcome!  So come out and play!  Questions: contact Ian Richardson at rmsultimate@gmail.com.

SOUTH EUGENE ROWING
Try-out week with South Eugene Rowing Club is September 16-19th, and is open to all Eugene 8th through 12th graders. Crew practices at Dexter lake T-Th-Sat and races in both fall and spring seasons. Check out oarjrcrew.org or call 541-485-1418 to Row!

ATTENTION WALKERS
Please remind your children that there is a lot of road construction in the Roosevelt walking area.  Please be attentive when walking or biking to school.

THANK YOU
Thank you to Chris and Julie Hogle for picking up flowers every Monday, arranging them and distributing them to our teaching staff!   Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Thank you to RMS teachers Carol Sinclair and Karen Marashi for their amazing work with WEB (Where Everyone Belongs), a program designed to help 6th graders feel comfortable and supported at Roosevelt.

REPEATED FROM LAST WEEK
ROOSEVELT CHESS
ROOSEVELT CHESS CLUB will be starting on September 19! New players are welcome. We will meet on Thursdays, 3:40-5:00PM in the Library. If you are interested in playing chess and having fun, pick up a flyer from the school office or contact Jerry Ramey at j-adoube@efn.org. or 541-232-0328.  You can also visit us at our web site:  http://www.southsidechess.com/contact-us.html.

PAR (Parents-At-Roosevelt)

Parents-at-Roosevelt typically meets at 9am on the first Friday of every month.  We meet in the room across the hall from the main office to get an update from administration, discuss the school budget, teacher grants, and generally how to best support the school and its staff.  All parents are welcome!  Our first meeting will be Friday, October 4th at 9:00am.  Last year we tried meeting on the first Monday evening of the month, but found that more parents were able to attend the Friday morning time slot.  We’re open to changing the time to suit most parents’ schedules.
TRANSPORTATION
Busy mornings? Point2point at Lane Transit District has a solution for that! And it’s FREE! Schoolsolutions offers transportation options to families with students grades K-12. Just enroll online and Schoolsolutions can match you to other families in your area that attend your child’s school. You will be updated if someone joins in your area and has a similar commute. Enrolling does not commit you to carpooling, walking, or biking, but it sure is a convenient option to have…just in case! It’s an easy way to develop contacts with families at your school to share in the walking, biking, or carpooling responsibilities.
Visit www.point2pointsolutions.org/schoolsolutions to enroll for walking, biking, or carpool matching services to:
·         Save time and money
·         Find families in your area to help share the school commute
·         Reduce congestion and pollution around your school
