Parent-Teacher conferences are Thursday, November 7 and Thursday, November 14. Conference appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Due to high demand, it is not possible to schedule all requests. Therefore, if you do not have concerns, you may choose not to participate. Please remember conferences are an ongoing process. Parents are always welcome to contact teachers at any point during the school year. Although our resources are limited, our desire to communicate is not. All conferences are ten minutes long and in the D Gym. Appointment Request Forms (on yellow paper) were distributed to students in House on October 10. If you wish to schedule a conference with up to three of your student’s teachers, then make sure to ask your student for the yellow form or print the attached Conference Request Form. Please return or fax the form (541-790-8505) to the office by Friday, October 18. (See attachment.)
PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT – Nov 4th: Safety and Security and Social Media
Maybe you’re on Facebook, but do you know everything you should about Tumblr, Instagram, Vine and Snapchat? Social media changes quickly, and as parents, it can be hard to keep up. Please join other Roosevelt parents for this year’s first Parent Education Night Monday Nov 4th 7-8:30 PM, where a panel of professionals in internet safety, as well as high school teens, will focus on safety and security and socializing, within this exploding new media. Please join us!
ACTIVITY NIGHT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We need your help for our students to have a spooky good time at our first activtiy night of the year on Thursday, October 24th. Volunteers are needed to chaperone 6:20-9:00. NEW VOLUNTEER AND VISITOR SIGN IN PROCEDURE
Some of you may have already noticed that we have a new procedure for signing in as a volunteer or visitor at Roosevelt. There is a laptop just outside of Karen’s office specifically for this purpose.
Visitors, click the Visitor button and input your name and the location in the building that you will be visiting. Remember to get a name badge and to sign out when leaving.
Volunteers, click the Volunteer button, find your name and select it, find the activity you are volunteering for and select it, and sign in. Remember to wear a name badge and to sign out when leaving. If you do not find your name listed then you do not have a current background check here at Roosevelt. Please check in with Julie or Karen in the office. We have computers available for use to submit a background check electronically.

The first Activity Night is Thursday, October 24, 2013 6:30-8:30pm
Halloween Theme: Costumes are optional (NO Masks that cover the face)
Activity Night is a fun and safe opportunity for all Roosevelt students to socialize in a safe and familiar place.
What are some of the activities?
- DJ/Dancing in the B-hall gym
- Karaoke in B Hall; Bingo in the Library; Ping Pong in the cafeteria
- Concessions in B Hall – serving pizza, chips, popcorn, juice ($.50-$1.00)
- Coat room (lockers are not available to students so you are discouraged from bringing any bags)
Activities will be located in B Hall only. The rest of the school will be closed, including ALL lockers (even B Hall lockers). Use the coat room to store your stuff. Entry will ONLY be through the admission doors.
Who is invited?
- Activity Night is for Roosevelt students only except: students wanting to invite a friend who attends another middle school, must fill out a permission form signed by an administrator from both schools. Forms are available in the front office and are due by Tuesday, October 22.
Drop off is at the back of the school. All students enter through the courtyard and South B-Hall Bay Door.
Pick up is at the front of the school. NOTE: The VLT Parking Lot is Closed this evening.
Price: $3.00 in advance ($1.50 for reduced lunch program). $5.00 at the door ($2.50 for reduced lunch program). OR Free for families that qualify.
6th graders: WEB leaders will meet with 6th graders in the D Gym from 6-6:30pm for a short activity night orientation.
- Students may wear costumes to school, but they must conform to the Roosevelt Middle School dress code (page xi in the student planner). Costumes may not be demeaning to any ethnic group, race, religion, nationality, disability, gender, or individual (staff or student) at the school.
- No unsafe props or equipment including replica or toy weapons are to be brought to school.
- No costumes that would completely hide the identity of the student, i.e. gorilla suit, mask, etc.
- No costumes that would impair a student’s vision or movement.
- All students participating must come to school dressed in their costumes – no getting ready in the building. Make up, hair products etc will be confiscated and not returned. If you are not sure, don’t wear it!

Greetings RMS Supporters! I am Kati Carter, Roosevelt’s new art teacher. I need some help building up art room supplies that are severely lacking. These items are needed so that our art students can produce some creative works to display around the school and bring home this year! I am looking for donations of tempera and acrylic paints, paint brushes (both watercolor and multipurpose), tissue paper, masking tape, fabric scraps, colored yarn, wire coat hangers, smocks (old button up shirts students can put over clothes also work), paper towel/toilet paper holders, embossed foil, thin sculpture wire, newspaper, small wood scraps, and cereal boxes. Lastly, any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. Art supplies are quite expensive, and unfortunately the $500 yearly supply budget does not cover even a third of what is needed. Please bring donations to the RMS office. Many thanks!
