PICTURE RETAKES
Picture retakes are Monday, October 14 at 9:00am.  If your student is having a retake, then send the picture packet back with your student on Monday to give to the photographer.  If your student didn’t have a picture taken at school in September, then he or she should have a picture taken on Monday, even if you choose not to purchase pictures.  Picture packets are available in the office.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent-Teacher conferences are Thursday, November 7 and Thursday, November 14.  Conference appointments are scheduled on a first come, first served basis.  Due to high demand, it is not possible to schedule all requests.  Therefore, if you do not have concerns, you may choose not to participate.  Please remember conferences are an ongoing process.  Parents are always welcome to contact teachers at any point during the school year.  Although our resources are limited, our desire to communicate is not.  All conferences are ten minutes long and in the D Gym.  Appointment Request Forms (on yellow paper) are being distributed to students in House today (October 10).  If you wish to schedule a conference with up to three of your student’s teachers, then make sure to ask your student for the yellow form or print the attached Conference Request Form.  Please return or fax the form (541-790-8505) to the office by Friday, October 18. (See attachment.)
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
ACTIVITY NIGHT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We need your help for our students to have a spooky good time at our first activtiy night of the year on Thursday, October 24th.  Volunteers are needed to help set up after school 3:30-5:30 and to chaperone 6:20-9:00.  Please let Julie know if you can help: marks_j@4j.lane.edu.  If you haven’t already, please be sure to submit a background check via the link below.  Thanks for your consideration!
VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK
If you volunteer at Roosevelt, please make sure you fill out a background check form electronically.  You can do so at
www.helpcounter.net/eugene.  This link is also available on the Volunteer section of the RMS website.  If you do not have access to a computer, please contact Julie in the office.   Volunteer background checks are good for a duration of two years.
ART DONATIONS
Greetings RMS Supporters!  I am Kati Carter, Roosevelt’s new art teacher.  I need some help building up art room supplies that are severely lacking.  These items are needed so that our art students can produce some creative works to display around the school and bring home this year!  I am looking for donations of tempera and acrylic paints, paint brushes (both watercolor and multipurpose), tissue paper, masking tape, fabric scraps, colored yarn, wire coat hangers, smocks (old button up shirts students can put over clothes also work), paper towel/toilet paper holders, embossed foil, thin sculpture wire, newspaper, small wood scraps, and cereal boxes. Lastly, any monetary donations would be greatly appreciated.  Art supplies are quite expensive, and unfortunately the $500 yearly supply budget does not cover even a third of what is needed.  Please bring donations to the RMS office.  Many thanks!

EEF EVENT
On Tuesday, October 15th, Eugene Education Foundation will celebrate students and schools at our annual Back-to-School fundraising event. This year we gather at a new time and a new place, from 11:30 pm – 1:00 pm at the Eugene Country Club.  See attachment.
Parents are invited to attend. There will be music and displays by students, inspiring reports about current grant programs and district priorities, and the chance to join with Honorary Chair Judy Wenger (former Roosevelt teacher), Superintendent Shelley Berman, and many other community supporters of students in District 4J.  Seating is limited. Here is a link to the EEF webpage to RSVP or learn more:  EEF Celebration 2013.  Seating is limited.

Students gain important inspiration for learning through the support of EEF grants, help EEF make this year’s upcoming Celebration a great success!  (See attachment.)
PARENT PICK-UP FROM SCHOOL
Parent question:  I am often frustrated at the amount of time it takes to pick up my student from school, especially when a doctor/dental appointment is involved.  How can I pick my child up in a timely manner?
Office answer:  Sending a note with your student to give to the teacher at the beginning of class will help the teacher dismiss the student at the appropriate time.  This really helps to cut down on the time it can take to locate students and send a runner to class.  The note should have the date and time you need them to be in the office and the reason.  Please remember, you must still come in to the office to sign out your child.
