We’ll have two red days in a row (Thursday and Friday, 5/22 and 5/23). The red/white calendar for the rest of the year will remain as originally published.
June 17 will be the final day of school this year. It will be an early release day for students. The final day had been tentative because any additional “snow days” (days when all schools are closed due to hazardous weather) were expected to be made up at the end of the year. With the likelihood of winter weather now past, the district has announced that the final day of school will be June 17.
The last Activity Night for this school year will take place on Friday, May 16th, from 6:30 to 9:00pm. Volunteers, plan to arrive between 6 – 6:10pm to sign in and get your assignment. 8TH GRADE PROMOTION, DANCE AND PICNIC
Save the Dates!
Friday, June 13th will be the promotion and dance. Promotion will be from 6:30-8:00 in the B gym. Then students will walk over to the D gym for the dance.
Tuesday June 17th will be the 8th grade picnic and field day, 11:30-2:30.
Permission forms and fee sheets will come home with your student after Memorial Day.

May 22, 7 pm: Family Movie Night: Viewing and discussion of ‘Downside of High’ documentary
Mark your calendars for an educational evening about the risks of using marijuana, especially for teenagers whose brains have not fully developed. First we will watch The Downside of High, a documentary , followed by open discussion and q/a led by local NAMI director Jose Soto. Statistically most kids who use marijuana try it between 8th and 9th grade — so now is a great time to understand the risks and why experimental or social use of marijuana might not be as harmless as many assume. Bring a dessert or popcorn to share!
The Cultural Festival is coming!!!
For many years, the sixth grade Cultural Festival has been a highlight in our sixth grade program here at Roosevelt. The Cultural Connections Team is pleased to continue the concept of researching and sharing students’ histories and backgrounds so that our entire community can celebrate Roosevelt students’ diversity.
Over the months of April and May, students will complete a family history or cultural project. They will interview a family or community elder, and do additional research on their topic. Their information will be displayed on a poster board. In addition, students will share their projects with classmates in an oral presentation.
We will have a Cultural Festival Open House on Thursday, May 29, 2014, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The poster boards from the oral presentations will be on display in the hallways. Parents, students, friends, and relatives are invited to come view the projects and celebrate our students’ cultural and family diversity. Project posters will remain on display in the halls for a week following the Festival.
It’s time to buy your student his or her RMS Yearbook. Yearbooks will be distributed at the end of the school year. Parents may have already purchased a yearbook at the beginning of the year when filling out registration forms. If you’re not sure if you’ve already purchased a yearbook, email Sarah at email@example.com
to find out. To purchase a yearbook for your child, bring $25 (or $12.50 for free/reduced lunch recipients) to the office. If sending a check with your student, be sure to make payment to RMS, and put “yearbook” and your student’s name on the check.
Have you ever thought about trying water polo? Eugene City water Polo is offering a session for 14U boys and girls – a perfect way to try out the sport or pick up some new skills if you have already played before. The session starts on May 19th, 3:45-5:15, Mon-Thurs at Amazon Pool. The session goes untilJune 12 and is $75. The first week is free for new players – so come check it out! South Eugene Soccer Camp
Calling all girls and boys, from grades 1-8, interested in developing their soccer skills. South Eugene is once again offering its summer soccer camp. The camp will be held from Monday, June 23rd to Friday, June 27th. Monday thru Thursday the camp will run from9am to 2 pm. On Friday the camp will run from 9am to noon. ESYO SUMMER MUSICAL THEATER CAMP
It’s that time of year again when families are starting to plan for what activities their kiddos will do when school is not in session.What better way for our local youth to spend their first days of summer than in a FUN, active, educational camp that combines training in singing, acting and dance!? This will be Summer Musical Theater Camp’s 23rd season! We offer a fun balance between rigorous training and an opportunity to show off performance chops in an end-of-camp show for family and friends. Students take daily classes in voice, acting and dance, and hone their performance skills with diverse musical theater repertory ranging from classics such as Oklahoma! or West Side Story, to contemporary favorites such as Wicked, Avenue Q, The Lion King, or The Producers.

SUMMER ROWING CAMP
South Eugene Rowing Club (SERC) rowing camps are for teens entering 8th – 12th grade, from throughout the community, at all experience levels. Experienced coaching staff teaches new rowers the basics of rowing: how to lift and carry the boat, how to row, and how to row together. More experienced rowers focus on improving technical skill and race preparation.
The two camps are: Week 1: July 21-25 and Week 2: July 28 – August 1
