When schools close or bus routes change due to hazardous winter weather, you want to know as quickly as possible. There are several ways to get the news on snowy or icy days:
• Text-message alerts via Twitter (go to www.4j.lane.edu/weather to learn how to sign up)
• 4J website, www.4j.lane.edu
• KRVM 91.9 FM
• Other radio and television news stations
If there is a change in the school schedule or bus routes due to inclement weather, Eugene School District 4J will announce the change. If school is in session and on regular schedule, the district will NOT make an announcement. Weather-related school closure decisions normally are made early in the morning and announced via all methods by 6:30 a.m. These decisions are made districtwide and are the same for every 4J school.
Parents of students who ride school buses that sometimes use snow routes have been informed of what to do when snow routes are in effect.
If school is in session, families are encouraged to consider road conditions in their areas and make their own decisions based on safety. Parents’ individual decisions about school attendance will be honored.
Si Escuelas se Cierran Debido al Clima
Los padres de familias del Distrito Escolar de 4J tienen varias formas de informarse si las escuelas se cierran debido al clima/nieve o si los buses están activados para las rutas de nieve. Para obtener información en los días cuando hay nieve o hielo:
· Contacte el teléfono de emergencia en español, 541-790-7738, donde tendremos información actualizada a las 7:00 a.m.
· Antes de mal clima, puede suscribirse a las alertas de mensajes de texto (www.4j.lane.edu/weather, en inglés).
· Puede ir al sitio web www.4j.lane.edu para obtener información (en inglés) actualizada a las 6:30 a.m.
· También, puede escuchar a la estación de radio KRVM-FM 91.9 (en inglés), o otras estaciones de radio y de televisión que también estarán anunciando si las escuelas están cerradas.
El Distrito Escolar no hará ningún anuncio al público si las escuelas están en sesión. El Distrito Escolar solo anunciara al público si las escuelas se cierran o si los buses están activados para las rutas de nieve debido al clima/nieve.
A los estudiantes que usan el bus escolar se les ha informado como usar la rutas de nieves escolares.
Si las clases están en sesión, tome en cuenta la condición de las carreteras en su área para tomar una decisión dando prioridad a su seguridad. Respetaremos la decisión que tomen los padres de familia en cuanto a la asistencia a clases.
The time for school choice is approaching and we need parent volunteers to help lead tours of RMS after Chris and Mike give a brief presentation. A MESSAGE FROM EUGENE SCHOOL DISTRICT 4J
Dear 4J families, we want to let you know about a change to this year’s school calendar.
The 2014–15 academic calendar has been adjusted to include unpaid furlough days — one school day and one staff work day when students would not have been in school. The furlough days were agreed on in contract negotiations this fall, and the schedule for the days has now been set.
If schools do not close for any snow days this year:
• Wednesday, June 10, will be the last day of school for students. The last day will be a full day for middle and high school students and an early release day for elementary students.
• Thursday, June 11, will be a grading day and the last workday for teachers.
• Friday, June 12, will be a budget reduction / furlough day.
Please be aware that the final school day may change. If there are any snow days (school days missed due to hazardous weather) they will be substituted for a scheduled furlough day or made up on days added at the end of the school year.
A revised calendar handout will be available after winter break.

Hey all you pizza lovers, Wednesday, January 14, Track Town Pizza is sponsoring a fundraiser for Roosevelt. Print the attached flyer or pick one up in the office and take it with you to Track Town. Fifty percent of the value of your food order will be donated to Roosevelt.

USED BOOK SALE
Deadline for donations: January 30
We are currently collecting books for a used book sale benefiting Roosevelt. All proceeds will go to help our school. Please clean out your bookshelves and bring in any books you no longer want. Drop them off in the collection barrel near lost and found by the front office. Both children and adult books are welcome. Deadline for donations is Friday, January 30.

ROWING CLUB AT SOUTH
South Eugene Rowing Club invites Eugene’s 8th-12th graders to check out our winter cross-training program for free! Students can drop by South Eugene High School’s IHS wing weekdays at 3:45 to take part in core, strength, cardio, and rowing machine work-outs. Rowers refine technique, and build strength, endurance, and friendships in preparation for the exciting spring sprints-racing season. After-school water practices at Dexter Lake begin in late February, but now is the time to try this unique, full-body sport. More information available at southeugenerowingclub.org.

Students will be accepted to Eugene IHS based on a lottery conducted at the 4J District office.

Immersion students will be enrolled in Eugene IHS without the lottery process. However, immersion students do need to turn in the Eugene IHS enrollment form to the South IHS office or the Sheldon IHS office by Feb. 27, 2015. This form will be included in a special January mailing to immersion families.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS: Collaborative Art Comes to RMS!
One of the strongest assets of Roosevelt is the House system. House is a great example of how important it is to create community. To “showcase” this successful program that helps to unify the school, and to add to the fundraising potential for the spring 2015 Showcase Roosevelt, each House is creating a collaborative art project. The resulting artwork will be added to the Silent Auction during Showcase. To support this endeavor, you can do the following:
1. Volunteer your time to present this project to a House (or Houses). The time commitment should be no more than 1 hour and all the materials and lesson plan will be provided.
2. Donate the following: Black Sharpies, markers, colored pencils, scrapbook paper, and/or glue sticks.
3. Volunteer to assemble the artwork once the Houses complete them.
4. Come to Showcase in April and bid on your child’s House’s art!

UPDATES ON RMS YEARBOOK
Hello RMS parents, we are in search of some more advertisements to put in our book, so we were wondering if you would like us to include you or your business in the RMS yearbook’s advertising page. Our prices are: Half of a page is $80, a quarter page is $45, a business card sized advertisement is $25, and if you’re feeling generous, a full page is only $130! Please consider putting an ad in our yearbook. Please note that the money goes to support the RMS yearbook fund. Help students remember these great middle school years.
In addition, we would like to send out a reminder to buy the yearbooks! They are $25, or $12.50 for free and reduced lunch. Take the money to the office to purchase. We encourage you to buy one!
