Showcase Roosevelt is Friday, April 24, 6:00-8:30.  Did you know Showcase is our biggest community event and fundraiser of the year?  Showcase is sponsored by PAR and put on by RMS staff, parents, grandparents, and community members–it takes a village to make it happen.  Not only is Showcase a fun family event with games, food, and entertainment, but Showcase is also the main venue through which PAR’s annual commitment of a .25 FTE (or in monetary terms, $27,800) is raised, which helps with staffing for the next school year.  We love donations!  Watch for upcoming news about your student’s House Basket themes, then donate toward that theme;  donate or ask a local business to donate an item to go in the Silent Auction–it can be as little as a t-shirt or as big as a vacation rental.  Questions? STUDENTS: SHOWCASE YOUR TALENT

Attention, students: if you are interested in showcasing your talent at Showcase Roosevelt, please print the attached form and return it to your House Adviser or the office ASAP.  Your contribution to the evening could be anything from having your garage band perform to having your artwork shown.

BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

RMS will be having its first Scholastic book fair during the week of Showcase. Please plan to visit the fair for some great books. The money we raise will buy next year’s OBOB books and new books for the library. The Fair will be open in the library before and after school and during lunch, as well as during Showcase evening.

We need some fabulous volunteers to make the Book Fair happen. Check out this link to see the shifts and jobs available and to sign up to volunteer:

8TH GRADE PICTURES April 3rd
8th grade individual pictures will be taken on Friday morning, April 3, during language arts classes.  A group picture of the entire 8th grade class will be taken at 9:45.  All 8thgraders will have an individual picture taken for their promotion certificates, even if you choose not to purchase pictures.  But if you DO want to purchase, picture packets will be available from advisors and in the front office after spring break.  You can also order online: go to mylifetouch.com, create your own package, and pay online.

 

LGBTQ PARENT NIGHT April 7th

There will be a South Region LGBTQ Parent Night next Tuesday, April 7th from 5:30-6:30 in our library.  All families who identify LGBTQ, or families with teens who identify LGBTQ, are invited to join us to share and discuss what’s being done in our school community to support you and your kids.  We also want to hear your ideas, suggestions, or concerns regarding your experiences in our schools.  Families and teens from Spencer Butte will also be joining us.

OLD ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS NEEDED

Planning a spring cleaning in your home or office? Save aside your old electronic components and appliances for a community-wide recycling contest to support Roosevelt.For the month of April, Roosevelt will participate in an electronics recycling competition to help divert electronic devices from our landfill and keep reusable electronics available to our community.Drop off your electronics at NextStep at 2101 W 10th Ave, M-Sat, 8:30-5pm during the month of April and ask your donation to be credited to Roosevelt or stop by Roosevelt from April 13 to April 20 and use our on site bins. We will be collecting working or broken electronics: toys, cell phones, monitors, computer and phone cables, laptops, keyboards and mice, hair dryers, blenders…everything from coffee makers and toasters to the cardboard box they came in.

 

The results from our effort will be weighed at the end of the month and the school with the most pounds of recycled electronics wins!

 

FREE DENTAL CLINIC
Does your child need dental care but you can’t afford it? LCC is having free dental clinics during April and May coordinated through your local 4j school.  Services provided by the LCC clinic include free cleaning, exam, xrays, sealants and fluoride as needed. Any child who comes to the LCC preventive clinics and needs further restorative care (fillings) will be able to get further care at LCC or at the Children’s Dental Center.   Contact your school nurse, Marlys Martin, at martin_m@4j.lane.eduor 541-790-8024. HOUSE ART POSTERS

Check out the House art posters made by students in the front office. Beginning in December, parent volunteers visited each House and led the students in an art project. Each House had their own theme. We assembled the House art into framed posters, one for each House. These will be displayed and auctioned at Showcase. We are previewing the posters, hanging up a new one in the front office window everyday. If you drop by the front office, take a look at their artwork. These are incredible posters!

 

RMS YEARBOOK

Parents, the RMS yearbook is coming! To ensure your student gets a yearbook, order one by stopping by the office or sending a check with your student for $25 or $12.50 for free/reduced lunch students.  (Please make checks out to RMS.)  If you can’t remember whether or not you’ve already purchased a yearbook for your student, send an email to case_sar@4j.lane.edu with your student’s name.  Limited scholarship money is available.  If your family would like a yearbook scholarship, please request one through your student’s advisor or by emailing Sarah at case_sar@4j.lane.edu

 

WE NEED WINE CORKS

GENEROUS INVESTMENTS VALUING EDUCATION

Gratefully we have raised about $25,000 in parent donations toward our goal so there is STILL TIME to make your tax-deductible donation towards funding additional teaching staff at RMS! Families should have received a donation letter and Q&A memo in the mail so go find that on your desk and act tonight! Let’s do what we can to lower class sizes and maintain our house classes, drama, music, library, counseling, and all of the GOOD THINGS we have come to love about Roosevelt. Questions?
