UPDATE ON SCHOOL NAME CHANGE
The 4J school district made a decision to NOT undergo a formal school name change process for Roosevelt Middle School. This decision was in response to a formal proposal submitted to the school district.
Although there will not be a formal name change process for Roosevelt Middle School at this time, the decision does not prevent our staff and community from having additional dialogue. The decision does not prevent another proposal from being brought forward in the future. Nor does it preclude the possibility of having a conversation in our community about the imagery used at Roosevelt Middle School. Should there be interest, for example, the Roosevelt staff and community could undertake a conversation about the school’s namesake and the associated imagery such as the school mascot.
If you would like to discuss changes to the imagery used at Roosevelt (mascot, etc.), then please contact Site Council representatives (includes the Roosevelt principal)

HELP IMMIGRATION SIMULATION
Attention 6th grade parents: Immigration Simulation is just around the corner on Thursday, November 19th and we need parent volunteers! If you are interested you may sign up at:
or email Alexis at email@example.com.
HAP HELP NEEDED
It’s that time of year again for HAP- our Holiday Assistance Program. HAP is our annual food drive that serves local families and Food for Lane County. We will be needing a parent volunteercoordinator (or co-coordinators) and many volunteers to help collect and sort food, assemble food boxes, and to shop for the fresh perishable items that we add to the boxes just before they are distributed to families. Please let me know if you are interested in helping in any of these capacities. This is a truly meaningful way to give of your time and energy. Please contact Julie with your interest and any questions. Thank you for your consideration.
HELP KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE WHILE WALKING TO SCHOOL
Although we have two staff members acting as crossing guards each morning and afternoon, there are many speeding drivers and unsafe situations in the crosswalk area. The Eugene Police Department has a Citizen Radar Program which community members may participate in. You will be trained to use a radar gun (how much fun is that?!?) and then stationed in front of RMS. If a vehicle is going more than 10mph over the speed limit, you’ll record information about the vehicle and the EPD will send an educational letter to the vehicle’s registered owner. This information would also be passed on to the Traffic Enforcement Team which could result in an increased police presence around the crosswalk.
If you are interested in supporting our students and crossing guards in this way, or have any questions, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Julie.
All volunteers must have a current background check at Roosevelt (4j background checks are site specific. Even if you have a current background check at another school, you will need to complete one for RMS). To submit a background check, please go to www.helpcounter.net/eugene. Background checks are valid for a period of 2 years.
REPEATED FROM THE PREVIOUS WEEK
Wii GAME DONATIONs NEEDED
