Showcase Roosevelt is less than a month away!  There are many ways to be involved and help with Showcase, one of Roosevelt’s most important fundraisers:

*  Do you own a business or have a special skill to share?  Do you own a vacation home?  The silent auction would love your donation.  Contact Julie @ jhmcnall@gmail.com with questions or donations.

* To volunteer for a shift the week of and/or evening of Showcase go to http://vols.pt/37F7bY or contact Laura Fuhriman at fuhriman_l@4j.lane.edu.

*  Contribute to your student’s House Basket.  Themes have been chosen, and an email with more information will be sent soon.

*Please note that all volunteers are required to go through a background check at www.helpcounter.net/eugene.

NEXT ACTIVITY NIGHT: April 29 6:30-8:30pm

The Next Activity Night is April 29th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This evening’s theme is Carnival!
Activity Night is a fun and safe opportunity for all Roosevelt students to socialize in a safe and familiar place.

Activities will be located in B Hall only.  The rest of the school will be closed, including ALL lockers (even B Hall lockers).  Students may use the coat room to store their things, but will not be supervised/monitored so bags and personal items are discouraged from attendance.
Who is invited?
Activity Night is primarily for Roosevelt students only, except: students wanting to invite a friend who attends another middle school may fill out a permission form that must be signed by parents and an administrator from BOTH schools.  Forms are available in the front office and are due by Wednesday April 27th.
Drop Off is at the back of the school.  All students enter through the courtyard and South B Hall Bay Door.  Student who purchase Activity Night cards in advance bring them and ENTER THE BUILDING IN THE BACK at the B13/Art room entrance.  NO ENTRY WILL OCCUR AT THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL.
Pick Up is at the front of the school.  Parents may park in the VLT parking lot to pick up students.
·         Parents and students, please use the crosswalks to cross 24th avenue.
·         Students may NOT leave early unless a parent picks them up.  If a student is leaving early with another parent, the student’s parent must send a note saying it is OK for the student to leave early with someone else.
·         $3.00 in advance ($1.50 for reduced lunch program)
·         $5.00 at the door ($2.50 for reduced lunch program).
·         Or, Free for families that qualify (see the Main Office)

The next Activity night this friday: April 29th from 6:30-8:30.  We will need volunteers to help during this coming event. If you are interested in being a volunteer, please contact Ashley Talbott-Kautzman at wonderlandfirefox@hotmail.com.Thanks!

Tomorrow is also the last day to donate your old electronics (working or non-working) to count towards the competition. Collection boxes are at our school (ask at office). They can also be taken directly to NextStep (2101 W. 10th Avenue, Eugene.) The friendly staff at NextStep bring carts directly to your car and will help in the whole process. Things can even be taken to NextStep on Saturday, April 30th. Make sure they mention your school’s name when they drop off at NextStep!

Please plan to stop by the library during Showcase or before or after school that same week and get some great books for your whole family. All proceeds support our library. If you are interested in volunteering to work the sale, sign up at

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080E4CA9A82CA75-rmsspring1. All volunteers have the chance to win one of several $10 credits to spend at the Book Fair. Questions? Email Christine Sampley at candrsampley@comcast.net. Hope to see you there!

Do you have a couple hours a week to help make a difference in the lives of middle schoolers? The Eugene Middle School Lunchtime Mentor Program seeks a mentor coordinator for Roosevelt Middle School. The mentor coordinator oversees the mentor program at RMS, and must be available every week on the designated mentor day (day to be determined) to spend 1-2 hours at school. Duties include walking notes to teacher rooms to remind students that it’s mentor day, staffing the mentor room, welcoming new mentors, overseeing the program, communicating with mentors, and meeting with the counselor about new matches and concerns. Mentor coordinators must be responsible, flexible, and friendly, and they must be willing to maintain confidentiality about any and all students in the mentor program. For more information, please contact Anne Bridgman at acbridgman@gmail.com

Our final musical at the current site is called “Be Yourself: the RMS Musical”.

This is a musical theater retrospective of our beautiful, creative legacy at RMS. The show, double-cast with 68 students, features an assortment of favorite pieces from past musicals at RMS along with an original storyline which connects the action and serves as an homage to our amazing tradition of excellence in the arts!
“Be Yourself” is borrowed from the name of a class created by the amazing Judy Francis who taught at RMS for several decades.
Our show opens on May 19th with 8 performances until May 28th (two matinee performances are included).
Tickets and t-shirts will go on sale at the beginning of May– all proceeds will support future theater ventures at the new RMS.

A cast of 46 children- including many Roosevelt students!- will fill the stage when “Willy Wonka Jr.,” presented by Rose Children’s Theatre, opens April 29 at the Wildish Theater for a seven-show, two-weekend run.  The play is based on British author Roald Dahl’s 1964 story, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” about a young boy who wins a Golden Ticket to tour a chocolate factory and ends up teaching grownups about family and following one’s dreams.

The show runs April 29-May 1 and May 6-8, with performances at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and matinees at 2 p.m. on Sundays and on Saturday, May 7. Tickets are $8 for children and students, $10 for seniors and $12 for adults, and can be purchased at www.therct.com or at the box office an hour before each show.  The Wildish is at 630 Main St. in Springfield.
