RAD WAS A SUCCESS!

Our RAD walk on October 7 was a grand success.  At the conclusion of the house competition on October 11, Roosevelt students had collected $20,072.  Thank you Roosevelt families for your generosity.  Seven houses raised over $1000 and all will celebrate with a house party.  Those houses are:   Jenoge Khatter 1st, Craig Wiebe 2nd, Dee Ryley 3rd, Eric Johannsen 4th, Chris Stober 5th, Marty Smith 6th and Meredith Coelho 7th. Family and friends can still donate online through October 14at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/RooseveltRAD

PICTURE RETAKES

Picture retakes are Monday, October 17, at 9AM. If students are having retakes, they should bring their original picture packet (distributed in house last week) to school on October 17 to give the photographer.  Students who did not have their pictures taken on the first picture day, should definitely have their pictures taken October 17. Picture packets are in the office.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Activity Night volunteers:

The next Activity night is coming up: October 28th from 6:30-8:30.

We will need volunteers to help during this coming event.

If you are interested please go to:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4da9ac2ca1fa7-october/

or contact the Activity Night Coordinator, Ashley Talbott-Kautzman at wonderlandfirefox@hotmail.com or 541-246-5610. Thank you!

HAP Coordinator:

It’s that time of year again for HAP- our Holiday Assistance Program. HAP is our annual food drive that serves local families and Food for Lane County, which is spearheaded by Marty Smith’s student government class and supported by parent volunteers. Right now we need a parent volunteer coordinator (or co-coordinators).

We have several yearlong volunteering opportunities:

Mentor Coordinator: The Eugene Middle School Lunchtime Mentor Program, which pairs caring, responsible adults in the community with at-risk middle schoolers, operates in all 4J middle schools. At Roosevelt, the program needs a mentor coordinator to oversee mentoring at RMS. This volunteer job takes from 2-4 hours a week of time.

Parent Lunch Supervision: Our principal, Chris Mitchell, would really love to have parent volunteers to help with lunch supervision.  It would be great to have a parent or two each weekday who could circulate around the building during lunch, be a familiar presence for students, and if needed to gently remind students of expectations.

Crossing Guard: We are looking for a parent who could be present at the end of every school day, for about 30 minutes, and help the students cross the road safely.

To indicate interest in these or any other volunteer opportunities, please email our volunteer coordinator, Laura Fuhriman at fuhriman_l@4j.lane.edu.

**All volunteers must have a current background check at Roosevelt (4j background checks are site specific.  Even if you have a current background check at another school, you will need to complete one for RMS).  To submit a background check, please go to www.helpcounter.net/eugene.  Background checks are valid for 2 years.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent-teacher conferences are Thursday, November 3 and Thursday, November 10, 4-8 pm. Although appointment request forms were due in the office yesterday, you may still turn in your form until Monday, October 17.   We will try to schedule an appointment for you, based on space available.  All conferences are in the dining hall and entrance is through the dining hall doors on the south side of the building.  Parents move from table to table, according to a schedule that will be provided, to meet with up to three teachers for ten minute appointments with each.   Scheduling is completed on a first come, first served basis.  Due to high demand, it is not possible to schedule all requests.  Therefore, if you don’t have concerns, you may choose not to participate.  Please remember conferences are an ongoing process.  Parents are always welcome to contact teachers at any point during the school year.  Although our resources are limited, our desire to communicate is not.
