What is Activity Night?
Activity Night is a fun and safe opportunity for all Roosevelt students to socialize in a safe and familiar place.
What are some of the activities?
– DJ/Dancing in the small gym
– Karaoke, Ping Pong
– Fall Themed Events
– Concessions – serving pizza, chips, popcorn, juice ($.50-$1.00)
AND MORE . . .
Activities will be located in the Dining Hall and C Hall, and interior Courtyard. The rest of the school will be closed, including ALL lockers. Entry will ONLY be through the admission doors.
Who is invited?
Activity Night is for Roosevelt students only except: students wanting to invite a friend who attends another middle school, must fill out a permission form signed by an administrator from both schools. Forms are available in the front office and are due by Wednesday, October 26.
Pick-Up & Drop-Off
Drop-Off and Pick-Up is at the main parking lot beside the exterior basketball hoops. All students enter and exit through the patio outside the Dining Hall, which will be lighted and marked.
Student who purchase Activity Night cards in advance can bring them and enter the building in the back at the Patio Entrance as well. NO ENTRY WILL OCCUR AT THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL.
Parents and students, please use the crosswalks to cross 24th avenue. Students may NOT leave early unless a parent picks them up.
$3.00 in advance ($1.50 for reduced lunch program).
$5.00 at the door ($2.50 for reduced lunch program).
OR Free for families that qualify.
Activity Night Cards go on sale Monday, October 24.
Students may wear costumes to school, but they must conform to the Roosevelt Middle School dress code as stated in the student planner. Costumes may not be demeaning to any ethnic group, race, religion, nationality, disability, gender, or individual (staff or student) at the school.
No unsafe props or equipment including replica or toy weapons are to be brought to school.
No costumes that would completely hide the identity of the student, i.e. gorilla suit, mask, etc.
No costumes that would impair a student’s vision or movement.
All students participating must come to school dressed in their costumes – no getting ready in the building. Make up, hair products etc will be confiscated and not returned. If you are not sure, don’t wear it!
All students must be picked up promptly at 8:30pm
TEENS AND TECHNOLOGY
A workshop for parents to learn the basics about social media and cyber safety will be heldOctober 26, 6:30-8:00 pm at Bertha Holt Elementary. Spanish translation will be available.

It’s that time of year again for HAP- our Holiday Assistance Program. HAP is our annual food drive that serves local families and Food for Lane County, which is spearheaded by Marty Smith’s student government class and supported by parent volunteers. Right now we need a parent volunteer coordinator (or co-coordinators).
We have several yearlong volunteering opportunities:
Parent Lunch Supervision: Our principal, Chris Mitchell, would really love to have parent volunteers to help with lunch supervision. It would be great to have a parent or two each weekday who could circulate around the building during lunch, be a familiar presence for students, and if needed to gently remind students of expectations.
Crossing Guard: We are looking for a parent who could be present at the end of every school day, for about 30 minutes, and help the students cross the road safely.

Meeting Focus: Building Capacity in Parent Teacher Organizations
Join us at the District Office Auditorium (200 Monroe St) for the first of four district wide parent leaders meetings. Each meeting will include a 40-minute training topic and a 20-minute information presentation from Superintendent Dr. Gustavo Balderas, Elementary Director Brooke Wagner, and Secondary Director BJ Blake.
At the October meeting, retired educators Josh Reckord and Bill Kentta will share information about how parent involvement impacts student achievement in our schools and provide strategies and resources for maintaining a high level of engagement.

Reunion trimestral del distrito 4 J para padres de familia que son lideres

Objectivo de la reunion: Capacitar organizaciones padres de familia y profesores
Por favor asistan a la primera de cuatro reuniones a nivel de todo el distrito para padres de familia lideres que se llevara a cabo en el auditorio de la oficina del distrito.
Cada reunion incluye un entrenamiento de 40 minutos y una presentacion de 20 minutos a cargo del superintendente Dr. Gustavo Balderas, Director de elementaria Brooke Wagner y BJ Blake director de secundaria.

HOST FAMILY OPPORTUNITY

What: Middle and High School Age Chinese Students participating in the UO Music/English Camps
When: Multiple 1-week sessions in February
Note: The host family provides transportation, breakfast and dinner on weekdays; 3 meals a day on the weekend and occasional sack lunches. Students may share a room but must have their own bed. Students spend only evenings and the weekend at home. Host families are strongly encouraged to take 2 students, and may host multiple sessions. Stipend will be offered.
ALADDIN JR SHOW AT CHURCHILL HIGH THIS WEEKEND
A cast of 60 area middle school children take the stage at Churchill High School for a Disney’s Aladdin Jr.
Performances are at 7:00 p.m. on October 21, and 22, and 2:00 p.m. on October 22 and 23. Tickets are $12 for adults/seniors and $9 for students. They may be purchased online at
