Hey Roosevelt families! Roosevelt Activity Day (RAD) is Roosevelt’s BIG fall fundraiser and it is tomorrow, on Friday, October 7.  In conjunction with Walk and Bike to School Week we are going to raise money for Roosevelt, highlight active and healthy living and have FUN!  After a modified morning schedule all students will walk the Amazon Trail with their house.  The house that raises the most money will win a house party.  Each house will also show its school spirit by dressing according to a theme, shouting cheers, or any other creative way the house decides to show its spirit.

There are five levels of fund raising: Walker ($25), Jogger ($50), Runner ($100), Marathoner ($150) and Ultra-Marathoner (over $200).  Which one will you be?  How much can your student’s house fund raise for Roosevelt? Please make sure you read with your student the green fundraising tips tucked inside the RAD collection envelope.  Turn in dates will be today and tomorrow, October 6 and 7. LAST DAY TO TURN IN THE ENVELOPE IS NEXT TUESDAY. New this year, family and friends can donate online at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/RooseveltRAD.  So get moving Roosevelt, it’s RAD!

And one more thing about RAD – we are extending the competition deadline through next Tuesday.  So next Tuesday will be the VERY LAST DAY of the House competition.  If you want to win that house party, then be sure to collect all of your donations and turn them in to your Advisor by TUESDAY.

RAD is happening the afternoon of Friday, October 7th.  RAD, or Roosevelt Activity Day, is our big fall fundraiser (think walk-a-thon) where each house walks the Edison or Camas Ridge neighborhood.  We need 2 parent volunteers from each house; there are still a few Houses that need chaperones.  Walking times will be between 11:50am-1:40pm on Friday.  If you would like to walk with your student’s house (or any house!) please email our volunteer coordinator, Laura Fuhriman fuhriman_l@4j.lane.edu

Houses that still need 2 volunteers:  David Roderick, Hollie Schultze.

Houses that still need 1 volunteer:  Chris Stober, Jeff Wyman, Chava Beinin, Chad Heidtke, Eric Gower, Karen Doerfert.

Thank you and see you on Friday, it should be a warm day!

Mentor Coordinator Needed: The Eugene Middle School Lunchtime Mentor Program, which pairs caring, responsible adults in the community with at-risk middle schoolers, operates in all 4J middle schools. At Roosevelt, the program needs a mentor coordinator to oversee mentoring at RMS. This volunteer job takes from 2-4 hours a week of time. Requirements: Candidates for the position of mentor coordinator should be organized, caring, and responsible, and should be able to commit to being at RMS each Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm. There is some additional work from home via computer as well as interaction with the school’s counselor. Training is provided, including shadowing the program coordinator until you feel comfortable with the job. If you are interested, please contact Anne Bridgman at eugenementoring@gmail.com. And please feel free to forward this to friends who might be interested in this fulfilling volunteer job.

Parent Lunch Supervision: Our principal, Chris Mitchell, would really love to have parent volunteers to help with lunch supervision.  It would be great to have a parent or two each weekday who could circulate around the building during lunch, be a familiar presence for students, and if needed to gently remind students of expectations.

To indicate interest in these or any other volunteer opportunities, please email our volunteer coordinator, Laura Fuhriman at fuhriman_l@4j.lane.edu.

All volunteers must have a current background check at Roosevelt (4j background checks are site specific.  Even if you have a current background check at another school, you will need to complete one for RMS).  To submit a background check please go to www.helpcounter.net/eugene.  Background checks are valid for 2 years.

Parent-teacher conferences are Thursday, November 3 and Thursday, November 10, 4-8 pm.  Your student should have received a salmon colored appointment request form from the advisor onTuesday, October 4, but the appointment request form is also attached here.  All conferences are in the dining hall and entrance is through the dining hall doors on the south side of the building.  Parents move from table to table, according to a schedule that will be provided, to meet with up to three teachers for ten minute appointments with each.   Scheduling is completed on a first come, first served basis.  Due to high demand, it is not possible to schedule all requests.  Therefore, if you don’t have concerns, you may choose not to participate.  Please remember conferences are an ongoing process.  Parents are always welcome to contact teachers at any point during the school year.  Although our resources are limited, our desire to communicate is not.  Appointment request forms are due in the office by Wednesday, October 12.

Picture retakes are Monday, October 17, at 9AM. If students are having retakes, they should bring their original picture packet (distributed in house today) to school on October 17 to give the photographer.  Students who did not have their pictures taken on the first picture day, should definitely have their pictures taken October 17. Picture packets are in the office.
