HAP KICKS OFF THIS WEEK

Our annual Helping All People Program (HAP) kicks off this week! For more than 20 years, the Roosevelt community has collected food during the holiday season to distribute directly to local families and to donate to Food for Lane County. We need your help to make this year’s HAP the best ever! We need nutritious shelf-stable food items; money to be used to purchase fresh items; medium sized boxes; and parent volunteers to help out during short afternoon shifts on Nov. 18,22,30, Dec. 6,8,12. Food, money and boxes may be brought to House through Dec. 6 (adults may bring supplies to the office). See http://signup.com/go/bEksMa for parent volunteers to sign up to help pack boxes. Please feel free to contact Sara Loveless at saralovelessmueller@gmail.com with any questions.

On behalf of the Roosevelt Student Government, we thank you in advance for supporting this important event.

Suggested food items include:

– canned tuna, beans, veggies, soup, broth, meats, chili, fruit;

– rice and grains;

– pasta, tomato sauce, shelf-stable parmesan cheese;

– powdered milk, shelf-stable soy, almond, cow milk;

– cold and hot cereal;

– pancake mix, syrup;

– breakfast bars, protein bars;

– peanut butter, jelly;

– beverages including coffee, hot chocolate, cider packets;

– applesauce;

– snacks.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Yearlong volunteering opportunities:

Parent Lunch Supervision: Our principal, Chris Mitchell, would really love to have parent volunteers to help with lunch supervision.  It would be great to have a parent or two each weekday who could circulate around the building during lunch, be a familiar presence for students, and if needed to gently remind students of expectations.

Crossing Guard: We are looking for a volunteer who could be present with Will at the end of the school day, for about 15 minutes, to help students cross the road safely. The times are M, T, Th and Friday from 3:30-3:45 and Wednesday from 2:30-2:45.

To indicate interest in these or any other volunteer opportunities, please email our volunteer coordinator, Laura Fuhriman at fuhriman_l@4j.lane.edu.

**All volunteers must have a current background check at Roosevelt (4j background checks are site specific.  Even if you have a current background check at another school, you will need to complete one for RMS).  To submit a background check, please go to www.helpcounter.net/eugene.  Background checks are valid for 2 years.

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL SURVEY

As part of Safe Routes to School program we need to evaluate active transportation at schools throughout the district. We ask that you take a few minutes to fill out this survey to help us as we work to improve the safety for students to walk, bike and roll throughout our community. This link is specific for your school. If you have more than one student at this school please fill out one for the older student only. If you have students at more than one school please fill out one for each school you receive a link for. Thank you for your time!

WANTED: GENTLY USED GAMES

Do you have any board games at home that could be repurposed? Have your kids outgrown some of their games? Would you like to make more space in your cupboards? The mentor program is looking for gently used board games, block sets (like Jenga), card games, and other games (like Uno and Boggle) to use during our mentor lunches. Games should be suitable for middle schoolers and playable by two people. If you have anything to contribute, please bring your donations to Laura Fuhriman, volunteer coordinator at Roosevelt.

HOW TO PURCHASE A YEARBOOK

We have a wonderful and dedicated group of parents and students who are creating our first yearbook in the new Roosevelt facility.  The group has been meeting after school on Wednesdays and has already designed the cover.  Yearbooks are very popular with students and staff, so please consider purchasing a yearbook ASAP!

The cost will be $25 until Winter Break and $12 for students who have qualified for the federal free and reduced lunch program.  The cost will rise to $30 after winter break.

If you would like to pay with credit card….

Please visit the follow the web link below and purchase a yearbook for $25.  There is no processing fee.  Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch discount cannot receive a discount online, so should pay in the office.
