We had a fantastic Activity Night last Friday. This would not have been possible without the many parent volunteers. A Special THANKS to to Ashley Kautzman and Splat Ter, the Coordinators of the event and to our fabulous parents: Pamela Quan, Elaine Lawson, Jennifer Touchette, Susan Alger, Tyan Taubner, Laurie Hauber, Jenine Stocke, Ed Stocke, Sara Loveless, Leilani Saez, Abi Conover, Cariie Frazier, Gina Thompson, Suzanne Whitney, Sandra Epple, Ruby Seitz, Anna Shipway, Diana Wells, Lara Sheridan, Karen Stapelton, Christopher Hazen, Gary Rayor, Charis McGaughy, Lisa Ghandour, Beth Schenderlein. And a BIG THANKS to the Students Government and STOP for the posters and the Haunted Dolls House to help create the ambiance.


Join us for the November business meeting this Friday, November 4th, from 9:00-10:00 in the conference room across from the office. PAR will hear an update from Chris and will discuss HAP (Holiday Assistance Program), upcoming parent education nights opportunities and ideas, staff/teacher appreciation, teacher grants, and Roosevelt Showcase, our big spring fundraiser. Please join us on Friday morning and feel free to invite other Roosevelt parents who are looking for more ways to get involved at school.

We have a wonderful and dedicated group of parents and students who are creating our first yearbook in the new Roosevelt facility.  The group has been meeting after school on Wednesdays and has already designed the cover.  Yearbooks are very popular with students and staff, so please consider purchasing a yearbook ASAP!

The cost will be $25 until Winter Break and $12 for students who have qualified for the federal free and reduced lunch program.  The cost will rise to $30 after winter break.

Please visit the follow the web link below and purchase a yearbook for $25.  There is no processing fee.  Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch discount cannot receive a discount online, so should pay in the office.

RMS 6th Grade Ellis Island Immigration Simulation Volunteer Sign-up**

The RMS immigration Simulation is scheduled for the 3rd and 4th period (approx. 11:45-2:30) Cultural Connections classes on Thursday, November 17th. It will take a big staff to process all those young immigrants! Volunteers should dress in ‘period fashion’ (shawls, hats, dark clothing, etc.). If you stay for both periods we’ll provide you with a light lunch.

We have several yearlong volunteering opportunities:

Parent Lunch Supervision: Our principal, Chris Mitchell, would really love to have parent volunteers to help with lunch supervision.  It would be great to have a parent or two each weekday who could circulate around the building during lunch, be a familiar presence for students, and if needed to gently remind students of expectations.  The 6th grade lunch is from 11:16-11:49 M, T, Th and F and from 11:02-11:35 on Wednesday.

The 7/8 grade lunch is from 12:22-12:55 M, T, Th and F and from 12:10-12:34 on Wednesday.  There is greater need for the 7/8 lunch, but we would appreciate any help you can provide.  Volunteers can be present from  one to five days per week and you are welcome to eat at the cafeteria.  They serve delicious lunches for  $4.00.


Crossing Guard: We are looking for a volunteer who could be present with Will at the end of the school day, for about 15 minutes, to help students cross the road safely. The times are M, T, Th and Friday from 3:30-3:45 and Wednesday from 2:30-2:45. Opportunities are available from one to five days per week.

You’re invited! Please join 4J Superintendent Gustavo Balderas to talk about the future of 4J schools.

Our school district is engaged in 4J Vision 20/20, a strategic visioning and planning process. 4J Vision 20/20 will lead to a 3- to 5-year guiding plan that reflects what our community wants our school system to look like and where the district’s limited resources should be targeted to best support student success.

The draft plan has been developed and all 4J parents, students, staff and community members are invited to get an update and provide feedback at a community meeting.
