Roosevelt’ Open House is Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 6pm. (Please note, this date was changed from 9/28 to 9/26, due to conflicts with other schools, as noted in Chris Mitchell’s September 5 email to parents)

You’re invited!  Please come early (at 5:00pm) to hear from our principal, Chris Mitchell and leaders of our parent organization, Parents At Roosevelt (PAR).  Chris and PAR would love to share what PAR is all about, positions that are available, and to discuss the next steps in moving forward. Please come to the Dining Hall.

The open house will begin with your student’s advisor at 6pm, and ends around 8:00pm. When you arrive, report directly to your student’s advisor’s room, where you will receive your student’s schedule and a map of the building. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Here are some great things you can do the evening of open house:

– Meet your student’s first trimester teachers

– Attend each of your student’s classes

– Learn about what your child is doing in class as well as requirements

We strongly support parents building relationships with their child’s teachers during the open house. Please remember that open house is not designed to address individual student needs. If you do want to check on your child’s progress, consider making a phone call or setting up an appointment.

Parentvue log-in information will also be available from our registrar in the front lobby at the back to school night.  You will have to provide picture ID to receive your parentvue information.

PAR is off to a great start! We had a fantastic turnout for our first meeting and are looking forward to a year filled with greater family involvement and input. Our goal is to create a meeting schedule that allows for maximum attendance and encourages participation from as many families as possible. Please stay tuned for our (early) October meeting date and time. Email for further information about PAR (Parents At Roosevelt).

Picture day is Monday September 18, 2017  ALL students have their pictures taken for student ID’s and the yearbook.  Picture order forms were included in your back-to-school packets.  The order form and your payment should be brought to school on Picture Day or pictures can be ordered online anytime prior to Picture Day.  Please remember that checks for pictures must be payable to Lifetouch.

The RMS Debate Club will hold its first morning meeting on Monday, September 25 at 7:50am-8:30am. We meet Monday-Friday at this time throughout the year. Please meet in the RMS entryway by the doors to the main office. We will enter the building as a group.

ALL ARE WELCOME!!! Debate club is run by Roosevelt parent Jeff Measelle. The RMS Debate Club is a great way for middle school students to have fun learning to research contemporary topics (e.g., origins of climate change; pros and cons of homework), constructing well-reasoned and evidence-based arguments to support both sides of a challenging issue (e.g., “Common Core does more good than harm”), and mastering public speaking.

Students who would like to check us out for a few days to see if this might be for him or her, should feel free to stop by. If you know your student is interested, please contact Jeff Measelle by email so that he can add you to the e-mail list and send you a welcome letter. For students who are sure they would like to join, there is a $50 club registration fee for families who are able to pay.
