For more than 20 years, the Roosevelt community has collected food during the holiday season to distribute directly to local families and to donate to First Place Family center and other organizations. We need your help to make this year’s HAP the best ever! We need nutritious shelf-stable food items; money to be used to purchase fresh items and medium sized boxes. Food, money and boxes may be brought to House through Dec. 8th (adults may bring supplies to the office).

On behalf of the Roosevelt Student Government, we thank you in advance for supporting this important event!

Some suggested food items include:

Canned items such as tuna, beans, vegetables, soup, broth, stew, meats, chili, fruit

Rice and grain

Pasta, tomato sauces, Parmesan cheese

Peanut butter, alternate nut butters, jams and jellies, applesauce

Hot and cold cereal, pancake mix, syrups

Powdered milk, evaporated milk

Beverages such as coffee and hot chocolate

PLEASE check dates on all items! We do not want to give any of the families outdated food!

PLEASE do not bring in the following items: top ramen noodles,

instant soups, cookies, or candy.

Are you interested in stepping back in time with RMS students? If so, volunteer for our annual 6th Grade Immigration Simulation to be held on November 29th.This unforgettable journey through time takes place in the large gym, which is transformed into a replica of Ellis Island. Students reenact the immigration process by visiting required stations which are staffed by parent volunteers. Immigration Simulation is an excellent example of an alternative learning experience where Cultural Connection students can integrate learning in a meaningful way.

Volunteers should dress in ‘period fashion’, if possible (shawls, hats, dark clothing, etc.).

Can you volunteer? Please sign up at 6th Grade Immigration Simulation  If you have questions or would like more information, you may contact our Volunteers Coordinator Laura Fuhriman: fuhriman_l@4j.lane.edu

When winter weather arrives, schools may be closed or delayed or buses may use snow routes. These decisions are made by the district early in the morning and are the same for every 4J school.

Snow day notifications: Our school district communicates any decision to change school or bus schedules as quickly as possible in several ways, all well before 6:30 a.m.

  • Sign up for text-message alerts— text FOLLOW 4JWEATHER to 40404
  • Like Eugene School District 4J on Facebook, facebook.com/4Jschools
  • Check the district website, www.4j.lane.edu
  • Tune in to local news media

No news = No change. If schools and buses are on their regular schedule, there will NOT be an announcement.

School schedule:

  • School Closure = No school for students. Decision about afternoon/evening activities will be made by noon.
  • Two-Hour Delay: School starts two hours late and ends at the regular school dismissal time, even if the day would normally have had a weekly late-start or early-release schedule. [[School Name’s]] two-hour delay schedule is [[START TIME–END TIME]].

Snow Routes: Some school bus routes have alternate “snow routes” that avoid higher and steeper elevations. If you need information about your student’s bus route, please see www.4j.lane.edu/transportation/snowroutes.

Parent Choice: Please consider the road conditions in your own area in making your decision about school attendance, and notify the school if your student will be staying home. Parents’ decisions about absences for weather-related safety reasons will be honored.

For more information, please see www.4j.lane.edu/weather.
