Roosevelt School News

A Message from the Principal and Assistant Principal

Good morning, RMS families:

We hope you had a great wintery weekend and found great ways to enjoy your additional hour in the switch to Daylight Savings time. As we move further into the fall and winter months, please check out this 4j page for information on how to sign up for weather alerts, school delays and building closures. We’ll always re-share district information in the case of winter weather, and no news means no change to the daily schedule.

Conferences This Week!

We’re looking forward to seeing many of you this week during conferences. Last week’s eNews message outlined the planning, structure and organization for conferences and we look forward to hearing from and sharing with you, and making a plan for the rest of the year. Again, we would like students to attend so a true dialog can occur. See you Wednesday!

Parent Education Event, 11/1/22

Last week on Tuesday, we had a wonderful parent education event with Ophelia’s Place. Yuki Roberts, our main presenter, shared with us foundational information about healthy relationships and boundaries, encouraging all of us to keep communication flowing between parents, other adults and our tweens and teens. Her part of the presentation starts around thirty-three minutes in– please check out the recorded Zoom session by clicking here. And, if you haven’t had a chance to check out the amazing work Ophelia’s Place does in our community, check it out here!

Have a great, short week… and we’d love to hear from you about how your year is going so far– thanks for reaching out.

Courtney and Mike

Picking up your student early from school?

During the years we were shut down for COVID, no visitors were allowed into school. With changes to pandemic policy, we are now able to welcome essential visitors and volunteers in our schools… and this includes parents who are picking up their student for an appointment or to leave early. This is a change from the beginning of the year. When you arrive at school for a pick-up, please park, come to the main entrance, and wait in the lobby while we fetch your student. With this change, we also seek to reduce any potential miscommunication or missed messages.

In addition, if your student is leaving early for the day, they *must* check out with a school adult first and sign out on the green sheet in the front office. This is crucial; students should not leave the building without clear instructions from adults or signing out. Thanks for your help!

PAR News

Our teacher and staff appreciation is just days away! We will be providing a meal for our teachers and staff during conferences, November 9th, to remind them how “souper” they are and how thankful we are for their investment in our children. We are still in need of a few items including soup. If you are able to contribute soup, please sign using the link below. If all items for the meal could be delivered on Wednesday, November 9th between 8 AM – 10 AM or 2 PM – 4 PM so that we can set everything up, that would be great. If you are interested in helping with set up or clean up or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Jamie Harms at jamieharms@gmail.com.

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0B49ACA829A0FD0-teacher

Even if you are not able to contribute to the “souper” meal, I would encourage you to drop an email or note to a teacher with something that you are thankful for about them. Those words of encouragement are a huge gift. Thanks for helping make our Roosevelt community a great place to be!

~PAR

P.S. If you missed out on the Parent Education Night last week, you can find the link to the slides and video or our time in Courtney’s message. It is a great resource on school safety and relationships that can be a tool in your back pocket as you parent teenagers.

Tdap Boosters for 7th Grade Students

Oregon law requires 7th grade students have their Tdap booster. Students must have current school records of all required vaccinations or valid exemptions to continue attending school on and after Exclusion Day, a date set by the State of Oregon that is in February of each school year.

Where to get immunizations: Vaccines are available at many health care providers’ offices, many pharmacies, Lane County Public Health (541-682-4041), and the school-based health centers at North Eugene (541-790-4445) and Churchill (541-790-5227). Call for information or to schedule an appointment.

Nonmedical exemptions: If a parent seeks a nonmedical exemption from one or more required immunizations, the parent must provide a completed Vaccine Education Certificate, available from a health care practitioner or from the online vaccine education module at www.healthoregon.org/vaccineexemption, along with the completed Certificate of Immunization Status. The Vaccine Education Certificate must be valid for all of the vaccines for which a nonmedical immunization exemption is being sought. A separate certificate is required for each child.
