Roosevelt School News

A Message from the Principal and Assistant Principal

Good morning, RMS families:

We hope you are looking forward to the long weekend ahead… this week, we’re continuing to support HAP and prepare for the end of the trimester. Please see below for some updates … all our best for a safe and connecting break!

Courtney and Mike

HAP is Happening!

Over the next three weeks, students will work together in House to support our annual school-wide HAP– Helping All People– event. For over a quarter of a century, families at Roosevelt have shown their generous spirit by donating to Eugene-area families during November and December. As we’ve done the past two years, we are opting for collecting pre-paid gift cards and cash donations to distribute to families in our school community.

We run HAP through House. Our Student Government will play an integral role in compiling gift bags for distribution under the guidance of Marty Smith and our volunteer coordinator, Laura Fuhriman, liaison Alison Wagner and counselor, Lee Baker, will be our adult contacts.

Our timeline for the event appears below:

  • November 14 – 18: Preview and launch HAP in House
  • November 21 – 23: HAP drive + collection begins– Thanksgiving week (no school Th/Fr)
  • November 28 – 30: HAP drive and collection continues– grading week (no school Th/Fr)
  • December 5 – 9: HAP drive and collection continues
  • December 12 – 16: Gift cards compiled and delivered to families

If your family is interested in helping fund HAP, please use this link:

Thank you to all RMS families and your continued support of our staff and building.

Picking up your student early from school?

During the years we were shut down for COVID, no visitors were allowed into school. With changes to pandemic policy, we are now able to welcome essential visitors and volunteers in our schools… and this includes parents who are picking up their student for an appointment or to leave early. This is a change from the beginning of the year. When you arrive at school for a pick-up, please park, come to the main entrance, and wait in the lobby while we fetch your student. With this change, we also seek to reduce any potential miscommunication or missed messages.

In addition, if your student is leaving early for the day, they *must* check out with a school adult first and sign out on the green sheet in the front office. This is crucial; students should not leave the building without clear instructions from adults or signing out. Thanks for your help!

PAR News

PAR likes to provide a little something on teacher work days to remind the teachers and staff how much they are appreciated. Sometimes it is a meal like during conferences, other times it is something different. December 1st is the next grading day for our teachers. We thought it would be fun to put a basket of snacks and hot drinks in the staff room. If you are willing and able to drop off an individually packaged snack or beverage before the 1st, that would be great! You can sign up to bring something using the link below:

December Teacher and Staff Appreciation

Thanks in advance and Happy Thanksgiving.

Volunteering Info

Many Thanks

Thank you Tereza Parish for prepping 600 leaves for our Gratitude Tree!

We are grateful to all our volunteers, for their time, support and kindness.

Join our incredible volunteers group

We still have open shifts (weekly) for the front office and the library. Activity Night is coming up as well as different projects that we would love for you to join us to lighten the work.

If you are interested in volunteering at RMS please contact Laura Fuhriman, fuhriman_l@j4.lane.edu, as soon as possible, as the process to become a volunteer can take more than two weeks.

Tdap Boosters for 7th Grade Students

Oregon law requires 7th grade students have their Tdap booster. Students must have current school records of all required vaccinations or valid exemptions to continue attending school on and after Exclusion Day, a date set by the State of Oregon that is in February of each school year.

Where to get immunizations: Vaccines are available at many health care providers’ offices, many pharmacies, Lane County Public Health (541-682-4041), and the school-based health centers at North Eugene (541-790-4445) and Churchill (541-790-5227). Call for information or to schedule an appointment.

Nonmedical exemptions: If a parent seeks a nonmedical exemption from one or more required immunizations, the parent must provide a completed Vaccine Education Certificate, available from a health care practitioner or from the online vaccine education module at www.healthoregon.org/vaccineexemption, along with the completed Certificate of Immunization Status. The Vaccine Education Certificate must be valid for all of the vaccines for which a nonmedical immunization exemption is being sought. A separate certificate is required for each child.

COVID-19 News

Sign Up for COVID-19 Testing

RMS has enrolled in the OHA/UO COVID-19 Screening Testing Program this year. This is an optional, weekly saliva test, via a take-home test kit. Please review this info/registration-flyer for more information.

If you would like to participate, please sign up by completing these two steps:

  • STEP 1: Complete the UO K-12 Student Information Survey at https://tinyurl.com/k12covidscreening. The registration survey can be viewed in English or Spanish. We have a rolling enrollment; students can sign up anytime. Testing can begin about 1-2 weeks after student sign-up begins.
  • STEP 2: Complete and return the OHA Consent Form. This form is required for all participating students and must be completed and returned to the school at the start of the program – plan to bring this form on your first test pick up day. If you do not have a printer, your school can provide a printed copy at test pick up. Schools are required by OHA to retain these consent forms.

Ages 5 – 14

Test Kit Drop off Info

Students should return the kits every Tuesday morning. Collection bins are located at the front office for sample drop-offs. Students should have their test kits in hand when arriving at school so they can be quickly and easily dropped in the designated bins.
