Thank you to Papa’s Pizza on west 11th, which is providing some of the pizzas for the RAD pizza parties for Eric Johannsen, Jack Fertal and Meredith Coelho’s Houses. Each of those Houses brought in more than $1000 in donations during the RAD fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who participated in any way in the RAD fundraiser, from volunteer, donor, and each and every student who took part in the Amazon walk. It was a great week of fundraising and a great day for a healthful and House-spirit filled walk. Also, additional donations have come in after the House competition ended and total donations to Roosevelt now exceed $17,000. Thank you one and all.
A big thank you goes out to Lisa Ghandour, Liz Phelps and Madeleine Combs for managing snacks for our test taking 8th graders Wednesday morning.
PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT
Thursday October 23, 7-8:30PM
Roosevelt Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming soon – Monday, November 10 and Thursday, November 13. By now you should have received your conference request form from your student. In case you did not, a copy is attached and can also be found on the Roosevelt website. Scheduling will be done on a first come, first served basis. Due to high demand, it is not possible to schedule all requests. Therefore, if you don’t have concerns, you may choose not to participate. Please remember, conferences are an ongoing process. Parents are always welcome to contact teachers at any point during the school year. Although our resources are limited, our desire to communicate is not.
Just a friendly reminder about arrival and departure at RMS:
Walking and biking are always great choices to get to and from school. If you must drive your student(s), remember, the areas for student pick-up and drop-off at Roosevelt are VERY limited. To help relieve the congestion around school we ask that you use the Preferred Parking Lots located:
(1)behind the school at Amazon Community Center at 26th and Hilyard or
(2)the parking lot at 24th and Amazon Parkway.
You may also use the parking area on the south side of 24th, west of RMS (ONLY up to the crosswalk at Patterson). If you use this area PLEASE be extra careful of cyclists in the bike lane, pedestrians, buses coming out of the driveway and other traffic. While the Very Little Theatre Parking Lot is NOT a Roosevelt parking area they have agreed that parents may use this area. To do so most safely, please pull in and drop your child near the southeast corner of the lot so they cross safely at the traffic signal. Crossing in the middle of the block is NEVER a good choice.
Please DO NOT use the rear circle drive behind the school except for a special purpose such as large items, injury or disability. If you must use this area, follow the 10 mph speed limit, yield at the crosswalk and watch for buses and students. NO drop-offs or pick-ups in the west D-Gym parking lot, the fire lane (marked in red), or on Patterson St. in front of the school in the bike lane (yellow curb).
And PLEASE do not use any part of the Spencer View Apartments across the street from Roosevelt as a driveway, roadway or parking area for picking up students.
Please help us make RMS a safe place for everyone!

4J LOCAL OPTION LEVY
(See attachments for more information)
Information About Measure 20-222: 4J Local Option Levy Renewal
Measure 20-222 on the November 4 election ballot asks voters in our school district whether to renew local funding for schools at the same property tax rate. The 4J local option levy funds school operations, such as teachers, programs and school days. It provides about $8 million per year, paying for the equivalent of about 16 school days or 80 teaching positions. It is not a new tax or a tax increase, but a five-year renewal of the local option levy that has been providing additional local funding for 4J schools since 2000. To vote on the local option levy, 4J residents must be registered to vote by October 14. To learn more, go towww.4j.lane.edu/levy.
