In order to allow students more time to collect donations from friends and family, we are extending the competition deadline through Tuesday, October 13.  Tuesday will be the VERY LAST DAY of the House competition.  We will, of course, accept any donations that arrive after Tuesday, but the competition among the Houses will end at the end of the school day on Tuesday.

Parent-teacher conferences are Tuesday, November 10 and Thursday, November 12, 4-8 pm.  All conferences are in the D Gym and parents move from table to table, according to a schedule that will be provided, to meet with up to three teachers for ten minute appointments with each.   Your student should have received a yellow appointment request form from the advisor on Tuesday, October 6, but the appointment request form is also attached to this email.  Scheduling is completed on a first come, first served basis.  Due to high demand, it is not possible to schedule all requests.  Therefore, if you don’t have concerns, you may choose not to participate.  Please remember conferences are an ongoing process.  Parents are always welcome to contact teachers at any point during the school year.  Although our resources are limited, our desire to communicate is not.  Appointment request forms are due in the office by Thursday, October 15.

Our principal, Chris Mitchell is seeking greater participation in Roosevelt’s site council.  Please consider sharing your thoughts on our school and it’s policies on a monthly basis while collaborating with staff and students. This is a year long commitment.  If interested, please contact Chris:

We need volunteers for Activity Night (Oct 30) 6:30-9:00pm. There are several activities that you can help supervise: foosball, concessions, dance, selfie booth, bingo, etc.  please signup at or contact Laura Fuhriman at Please see the attached flyer for more details.

Tuesday October 20 | 6:30 PM | Chad Heidtke – Science Classroom (A-Hall)
Calling all parents of 7 & 8 grade students at RMS!   Chad Heidtke is working with World Strides to offer students a week-long science trip to Costa Rica in June 2016. We all know the best way to study science is to experience it, and there’s no place more scientifically diverse than Costa Rica. Your student will be immersed in scientific discovery, and gain a deep appreciation and understanding of the earth’s diverse ecosystems and our responsibility to care for them. Please join us with your student for this mandatory parent meeting to learn more.

In the AVID Elective, students are routinely required to enroll in their school’s toughest courses, such as honors or Advanced Placement®. Because of this, AVID tutors are required to help students access rigorous content. AVID-trained tutors conduct collaborative tutorials that lead to increased student participation and success. Tutors are essential to the success of AVID, acting as a resource and role model for AVID students both academically and socially.

AVID tutoring happens during the school day, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are interested in finding out more about becoming an AVID tutor, and about how your schedule might fit this opportunity, feel free to contact Pat Louderback, AVID Co-District Director, with the Eugene 4J School District, at

There is a critical need for stable, nurturing foster homes in our community. The greatest needs are for families that can take larger sibling groups (3-5 children) so they can stay together, homes for toddlers/preschoolers – not babies, but not in school yet, and homes for teens.   Without safe, loving foster homes in each community, children are forced to change schools and leave friends and familiar surroundings just when they need those things the most.   Not everyone can be a foster family, but some can – if you are interested in more information call: 541-726-6644, ext. 2248 or e-mail:  To learn ways your family can support foster families in our community, contact
