RAD IS ROUND THE CORNER!
Hey Roosevelt families! Roosevelt Activity Day (RAD) is Roosevelt’s BIG fall fundraiser and it is only a week from tomorrow, on Friday, October 7. In conjunction with Walk and Bike to School Week we are going to raise money for Roosevelt, highlight active and healthy living and have FUN! After a modified morning schedule all students will walk the Amazon Trail with their house. The house that raises the most money will win a house party. Each house will also show its school spirit by dressing according to a theme, shouting cheers, or any other creative way the house decides to show its spirit.
There are five levels of fund raising: Walker ($25), Jogger ($50), Runner ($100), Marathoner ($150) and Ultra-Marathoner (over $200). Which one will you be? How much can your student’s house fund raise for Roosevelt? Students will receive their collection envelopes in house on Monday, September 26 so they can start collecting donations. Please make sure you read with your student the green fundraising tips tucked inside the envelope. Turn in dates will be Monday and Tuesday, October 3 and 4, and Thursday and Friday, October 6 and 7. Also, new this year, family and friends can donate online at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/RooseveltRAD. So get moving Roosevelt, it’s RAD!
RAD is happening the afternoon of Friday, October 7th. RAD, or Roosevelt Activity Day, is our big fall fundraiser (think walk-a-thon) where each house walks the Edison or Camas Ridge neighborhood. We need 2 parent volunteers from each house; there are still many Houses that need chaperones. Walking times will be between 11:40am-1:40pm on Friday. If you would like to walk with your student’s house (or any house!) please email our volunteer coordinator, Laura Fuhriman firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include your student’s advisor’s name! Or you can directly sign up at http://signup.com/go/dnYqMK
Houses that still need volunteers: Heidtke, Stober, Tubb, Roderick, Gower, Coach, Schultze, Wyman, Doerfert, Fullerton, Smith and Coehlo.
Mentor Coordinator Needed: The Eugene Middle School Lunchtime Mentor Program, which pairs caring, responsible adults in the community with at-risk middle schoolers, operates in all 4J middle schools. At Roosevelt, the program needs a mentor coordinator to oversee mentoring at RMS. This volunteer job takes from 2-4 hours a week of time. Requirements: Candidates for the position of mentor coordinator should be organized, caring, and responsible, and should be able to commit to being at RMS each Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm. There is some additional work from home via computer as well as interaction with the school’s counselor. Training is provided, including shadowing the program coordinator until you feel comfortable with the job. If you are interested, please contact Anne Bridgman at email@example.com. And please feel free to forward this to friends who might be interested in this fulfilling volunteer job.
Parent Lunch Supervision: Our principal, Chris Mitchell, would really love to have parent volunteers to help with lunch supervision. It would be great to have a parent or two each weekday who could circulate around the building during lunch, be a familiar presence for students, and if needed to gently remind students of expectations.
To indicate interest in these or any other volunteer opportunities, please email our volunteer coordinator, Laura Fuhriman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All volunteers must have a current background check at Roosevelt (4j background checks are site specific. Even if you have a current background check at another school, you will need to complete one for RMS). To submit a background check please go to www.helpcounter.net/eugene. Background checks are valid for 2 years.

PAR – PARENTS AT ROOSEVELT
Hello and welcome to PAR-Parents at Roosevelt. My name is Alexis Borrevik and I am the 2016-17 PAR chair. Are you wondering what PAR is? PAR (Parents at Roosevelt) is the parent-led volunteer organization that supports RMS students and staff, connects and informs parents, and is one of the many ways parents can get involved in the school. There are no membership fees to join PAR — all RMS parents are automatically members. Please join us for a brief introduction to PAR. First meeting: Oct.4.
