PARENTS AT ROOSEVELT (PAR)
Welcome back from PAR, Parents At Roosevelt. We had a great turnout at this year’s ice cream social and enjoyed meeting and greeting both new and returning families. Our first meeting of the year is Tuesday, September 12th, from 6:00-7:00 in the library. Principal Chris Mitchell will give us a brief update about the start of the year and what to look forward to in the 2017-18 school year, we’ll talk about upcoming opportunities for volunteers, seek ideas for Parent Education Nights, and look at creating a meeting schedule that works for the majority of attendees going forward through the year. PICTURE DAY – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Picture day is Monday September 18, 2017 ALL students have their pictures taken for student ID’s and the yearbook. Picture order forms were included in your back-to-school packets. The order form and your payment should be brought to school on Picture Day or pictures can be ordered online anytime prior to Picture Day. Please remember that checks for pictures must be payable to Lifetouch.
Volunteers and Lifetouch are responsible for making sure that all of our approximately 630 students and staff get their picture taken as quickly, efficiently, and with the least disruption to the classroom, as possible. Please volunteer to help during one or more of the shifts listed below. Each shift can utilize 3-4 volunteers. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated. PARKING ALONG 24TH
As part of the rebuilding of Roosevelt Middle School, the Eugene 4J School District and the City of Eugene have partnered on improvements to 24th in front of the school to increase the safety of our students and staff as they travel to and from school.
This school year, you’ll see a new buffered bike lane and removal of parking that keeps students safe from being knocked off their bikes in what used to be the “door zone” on East 24th, as well as improved crosswalks and traffic calming measures to East 24th Ave between Amazon Parkway and Hilyard Street. These improvements are part of a greater effort at locally, regionally and nationally to increase the safe student use of active transportation as a means of getting to and from school, thanks to the health, environmental, and potential academic benefits.
As such, there will be no pause parking or longer term parking on 24th Ave in front of the school. Please use the school parking lot or parking spaces in the neighborhood to pick up and drop off students.
We are looking for individuals who can help inform people of the change at pick-up and drop-off time in the first few days of school. If you are willing to help, please contact Karen Kingzett at the front office at 790-8500 or email@example.com.
Several teachers are planning to make collages of current issues/events in their classroom throughout the year. They would greatly appreciate it if you could drop magazines that you no longer need at the office. Thank you!
FREE/REDUCED BREAKFAST AND LUNCH
All Free & Reduced Lunch students receive Free Meals – both Breakfast & Lunch, for the foreseeable future. Breakfast and lunch are both available at school. Regular prices are $1.65 for breakfast and $3.15 for lunch. If you believe your
child may qualify for free or reduced meal prices, please pick up an application in the Roosevelt office or apply online: https://district.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp/default.aspx.
Returning students to the program must complete a NEW form at the beginning of the school year. Complete one form per family, including all your children enrolled in 4J schools, no matter for which other program you have qualified. If a NEW form is not submitted, you will be dropped from the program and charged full
price for all meals, beginning October 13, 2017. Those new to the program must also complete one form per family, including all your children enrolled in 4J schools.
Please be aware that applications can take up to 10 days to process. You are considered approved when you receive a letter from Food Services stating that you are now a part of the program. Until that time, you are responsible to provide meals for your child either from home or paying full price for them at school.

RMS ULTIMATE IS STARTING!
RMS Ultimate is co-ed, open to all 6-8th graders, and new players are welcome! Practices are held on the Century Fields next to RMS on Tues and Thurs from 3:45-5:30. The first practice is September 12 and games are every Saturday 9:30-12 for 8 weeks starting September 30th.
Want to check it out but not ready to commit? Come to one of the first few practices to see what you think. Bring cleats, if you have them, and water. The cost is $75 and scholarships are available. All players receive a frisbee and a shirt! For more info or to register: http://www.emsultimate.com/
SOUTH EUGENE ROWING CLUB
Athletes wanted! Eugene’s competitive junior rowing team is recruiting all area 8-12th graders. No experience needed for this co-ed team.
Free trial period: weekdays 9/6-15, 4pm at South Eugene HS, IHS wing.
First week – indoor practice until 6pm. second week going to Dexter Lake!
