All are invited to Roosevelt’ Open House is Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 6pm. Please come early (at 5:00pm) to the Dining Hall to hear from our principal, Chris Mitchell and leaders of our parent organization, Parents At Roosevelt (PAR). Principal Chris and PAR would love to share what PAR is all about, positions that are available, and to discuss the next steps in moving forward.

The open house will begin with your student’s advisor at 6pm, and ends around 8:00pm. When you arrive, report directly to your student’s advisor’s room, where you will receive your student’s schedule and a map of the building. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

Here are some great things you can do the evening of open house:
– Meet your student’s first trimester teachers
– Attend each of your student’s classes
– Learn about what your child is doing in class as well as requirements

We strongly support parents building relationships with their child’s teachers during the open house. Please remember that open house is not designed to address individual student needs. If you do want to check on your child’s progress, consider making a phone call or setting up an appointment.

Parentvue log-in information, which enables parents to access their child’s school information such as grades, will also be available from our registrar in the front lobby at the back to school night. You will have to provide picture ID to receive your parentvue information.

Hey Roosevelt families! Roosevelt Activity Day (RAD) is Roosevelt’s BIG fall fundraiser and it is held on Friday, October 6. In conjunction with Walk and Bike to School Week we are going to raise money for Roosevelt, highlight active and healthy living and have FUN! After a modified morning schedule all students will walk the Amazon Trail with their house. The house that raises the most money will win a house party. Each house will also show its school spirit by dressing according to a theme, shouting cheers, or any other creative way the house decides to show its spirit.

There are five levels of fund raising: Walker ($25), Jogger ($50), Runner ($100), Marathoner ($150) and Ultra-Marathoner (over $200). Students will receive their collection envelopes in house on Monday, September 26 so they can start collecting donations. Please make sure you read with your student the green fundraising tips tucked inside the envelope. Turn in dates will be Monday and Tuesday, October 2 and 3, and Thursday and Friday, October 5 and 6. Also, new this year, family and friends can donate online at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/Roosevelt/RAD. So get moving Roosevelt, it’s RAD!

RAD will take place between 12-1:10pm, Friday, October 6th, and we need 2 parent volunteers for each house. Please join us by signing up at http://signup.com/go/dnYqMK or contact Laura Fuhriman: fuhriman_l@4j.lane.edu.

This year the Roosevelt yearbook will be created in Yearbook Club with parent volunteers as advisors. If your student is interested in joining the Yearbook Club, then have him or her come to an informational meeting in Eric Johannsen’s room, C3, on Wednesday, September 27 after school at 2:35. Regular weekly meetings will take place on Wednesdays right after school from 2:35-3:35. Extra hours may be needed outside the club time to meet deadlines, attend activities, take pictures, etc. it is a great way to show your creativity and contribute to the history of the school. Hope to see interested students Wednesday!

How to purchase a yearbook
Quantities are limited, so please consider purchasing a yearbook ASAP! The cost is $30 or $15 for students who qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program. If you would like to pay with credit card (there is no processing fee) please visit the following the web link and purchase your yearbook. Unfortunately, the discounted fee is not available online.
Roosevelt’s yearbook ID number is 10678818.

If you would like to pay by cash or check…. please come to the office and make your check payable to Roosevelt Middle School with Yearbook (plus student name) written in the Memo space.

PAR is off to a great start! We had a fantastic turnout for our first meeting and are looking forward to a year filled with greater family involvement and input. Our goal is to create a meeting schedule that allows for maximum attendance and encourages participation from as many families as possible. The SPICE Program is hosting its 7th Annual UO Fall Science Open House!

What: Free Science Outreach Event
When: October 4th, 2017 – 6:30-8:30pm
Where: Willamette Hall on the UO Campus

The UO Fall Science Open House is a showcase of all the wonderful formal and informal science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) outreach available in our community. The open house features 25+ interactive, hands-on science tables and demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public. The goal of the open house is to connect families and teachers with science education opportunities.
