iPad Pick-Up
If you haven’t gotten your student device yet, please plan on coming by between 8 am – 4 pm on Tuesday, September 15 and Thursday, September 17. Pick-up will be in front of the school near the front office– please wear masks and practice safe social distancing.

If you run into tech difficulties, please use the resources on the home screen of your student’s iPad.

In the iPad dock, use the quick link to the student technology support website by tapping on the “Submit a Ticket” icon. It will take you to: https://technologysupport.4j.lane.edu/

You can also email sts@4j.lane.edu or call 541.790.7770.

Please remember: Every student is expected to use a 4j-issued iPad to reduce technical challenges and increase student accessibility.

School Food Service
Free grab-and-go meals at Roosevelt have been canceled for Monday, September 14 due to continued poor air quality. We hope to begin serving them on Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 11 am – 12 pm. Once school starts, meals will be available from 10:45 am to 2:00 pm. We’d love to see you at school for this fantastic district service!

Family Meetings & PAR Meeting
Family meetings. Please join us for our upcoming family meet and greet meetings on Thursday, September 17. These are designed for you to meet teachers prior to school starting and hear a little bit about grade level classes.

The Parents at Roosevelt (PAR) meeting will have more information on the school schedule, what to expect in distance learning with Canvas, and how you can help this fall. We will send out an invitation the day before with Zoom information:

* 5:00 pm Current 6th grade families
* 5:30 pm Current 7th grade families
* 6:00 pm Current 8th grade families
* 6:30 pm Parents at Roosevelt (PAR) meeting

Student Schedules
A reminder that we hope to have student schedules out on Tuesday afternoon, September 15. Please look in on ParentVue or StudentVue. A smartphone app for ParentVue is available for free in the App Store for Android or Apple. If you don’t see the schedule immediately, please wait a day before contacting the front office.

If you are not able to access ParentVue, Activation Letters with access codes will be printed out and ready to distribute between 8 am – 4 pm on Tuesday, September 15 and Thursday, September 17 during device pick-up. A driver’s license or other identification is required to receive the Activation Letter.

All students will need to know their usernames to log in to their student email account and Canvas. Their username is the first part of their email address. If your student does not remember their username, we will be holding all day long open Zoom sessions for your student to obtain their username the same days as device pick-up. These sessions are not tech help sessions; they are an opportunity for students to receive their username only.

Yearbooks
Yearbooks have finally arrived! We will have a special distribution by the end of the month. Stay tuned for details!

Simple Ways to Support Roosevelt this Year
Two simple (and free) ways to help support Roosevelt are making sure you are enrolled in the eScrip and Fred Meyer rewards programs. These programs automatically donate a portion of your purchase cost to Roosevelt each time you shop at local stores.

Please take a moment to enroll in the programs. If you are already registered, please check your account and update your cards if needed (also check to make sure you have designated Roosevelt as your recipient). The instructions are below.

eScrip

1) eScrip: Go to www.escrip.com and:
* Register your credit/debit cards
* Designate Roosevelt Middle School—Recipient ID #6723045

Roosevelt will earn a percentage of your purchases each time you shop at Market of Choice.

Fred Meyer Community Rewards

Chess Club is Back!
Hello Roosevelt Parents. For 27 years, we at Southside Chess have been providing on-site Chess Club opportunities to 4J Students. The coronavirus has caused us to change our format, at least for now, but we have developed an OUTSTANDING ONLINE CHESS PROGRAM. Our summer chess program has been a tremendous success, and we will continue to provide chess to 4J students.

It is a little different in that we will be dividing students into skill-level groups instead of school club groups, but this is actually better for teaching purposes, and we will have school team competitions later in the year, among many online chess playing opportunities. Let’s keep our outstanding 4J chess program going. 20% DISCOUNT FOR STUDENTS OF PARENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED BECAUSE OF CORONAVIRUS.

Design Arts Apprenticeship Program
Applications are now open for the fall 2020 term of Lane Arts Council’s Design Arts Apprenticeship Program!

Fall Term: October 5th – December 11th, 2020
Applications Due September 18th

The application is available in English and Spanish at http://lanearts.org/arts-apprenticeships/.

The Design Arts Apprenticeship program offers Lane County middle and high school students apprenticeship opportunities with professionals working in graphic, digital, and physical design.

This is a chance for students to learn new skills and uncover potential career paths over a 10-week period of intensive, direct learning.

Students can choose between virtual or in-person participation this term. In-person sessions will follow OHA guidelines for safety. Note, the fully virtual version of the program allows Lane County students from any location to easily participate!

Students will meet with a mentor group for approximately 2.5 hours per week for 10 weeks to work directly on a shared project. Students also participate in engaging design-focused workshops, and showcase their final products and learning during a week-long public display.

Contact artsed@lanearts.org with any questions.
