Message from the Principal & Assistant Principal
Dear RMS Families:
We hope you enjoyed a long holiday weekend of rest and relaxation and that four days away provided a respite from the daily schedule! We’re back with two weeks to go before the trimester end.

In anticipation of starting trimester two, we have a special schedule the week of December 7. Our goal is to support students finishing the first trimester with confidence and to provide time for reflection and feedback for both students and staff.

Beginning this week, final projects and assignments will begin to taper off and Friday, December 4 will be the last day teachers will assign new work. During the week of December 7, students will finish up any work, including missing assignments, projects or tests, and complete extension work. Some classes will also offer final assessments and accelerated classes will continue on pace.

The week is outlined in the “Look Ahead to Next Week” at the end of the eNEWS and here is a visual schedule:  N/A
We will take attendance all four days, December 7 – 10. House on December 8 and synch classes on December 9 and 10 will be particularly important because students will complete both a general survey and individual class surveys. Data from these surveys will be used immediately to inform instruction and offer additional student support.  We know students, staff and parents may be feeling some extra stress in the coming weeks as we complete the first third of our year. We’re all in this together, each of us working the best we know how to navigate. Being aware of increased stress, finding the balance of celebrating growth while acknowledging challenges, and finding ways to connect with others– a peer, a teacher or via a club– will be the way we finish strong in trimester one!

Thanks very much for your continued support, kind reach-outs, and thoughtful questions. We do take all information we receive into consideration and will be sharing some instructional and organizational shifts in Canvas for trimester two. Until then, we’re looking forward to wrapping up our first term of CDL together!

Our best,
Courtney and Mike

Help All People (HAP) Drive 2020
The HAP Drive is On!
For over a quarter of a century, families at Roosevelt have shown their generous spirit by donating food and other supplies to Eugene families during the holiday season. As with so many events in 2020, our annual HAP– Help All People– drive will be a little different this time around.  During the HAP drive, we will be collecting prepaid gift cards from local grocery stores which will be distributed to families in our school community.

Suggested stores include: Albertsons, Safeway, Winco, Fred Meyer, Target or Walmart.  Any prepaid amount is welcomed. Please clearly mark the value of any cards donated.  Cards may be donated at RMS between 8 am and 4 pm, Monday – Friday from November 30 to December 11. You can also mail cards to the school: 500 E 24th Ave, Eugene, OR 97405.   Thank you for your generosity, and for keeping the Roosevelt HAP tradition alive!

RePlay the Music Forward Project
Learning an instrument and playing music can help ease feelings of fear and anxiety and offer an avenue of comfort, creativity and confidence to help our kids get through this unprecedented situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and virtual learning.  The Replay the Music Forward Project is an ad hoc group of community volunteers working to benefit Roosevelt Middle and South Eugene High School music students that may not be able to afford to purchase their own instruments.  Your gift will be used by students this school year, and years to come. If you have an instrument that’s not getting played and would like to donate it please email us at replaythemusicforward@gmail.com or contact us thru Replay The Music Forward Project on Facebook. We will be happy to arrange a covid safe pick-up from one of our trusted volunteers. We will be accepting donations thru Dec. 4, 2020. Thank you for your generosity, upcycling, your help in making a difference, and Replaying the Music Forward! Find and Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ReplayTheMusicForward/

PAR Planning Meeting
Join PAR as we create fun ways for students to connect virtually. While we can’t hold a traditional activity night as we have in the past, we’re working to find other ways for students to engage with one another to have some fun, share some laughs, and just be kids. We would love some help from families in coming up with ideas for different games to play and activities to try online.  Please join us from 6:00-7:00 on Tuesday, December 1st, to help create these fun events for our students. Be sure to check the PAR Facebook page later today or email Alexis at ancborrevik@yahoo.com for the Zoom link.

Technology Trainings for Parents
Parents, did you miss the recent live technology training webinars? Now, you can watch the recordings to learn more about the technology your student is using for distance learning, and how you can support your student and navigate the parent view of the learning platform.
* Elementary School Parent Webinar: Seesaw & Clever (video | slides)
* Middle School Parent Webinar: Canvas (video | slides)
* High School Parent Webinar: Canvas (video | slides)
Additional tech support resources are posted on the district website to help students and families solve technology issues and connect with distance learning.
Help is available for high-speed internet access.

Library Cards
A library card is the most powerful school supply a student can have, and all students in 4J schools are eligible for a free Eugene library card – including those who live outside of the Eugene city limits. The library card application was mailed to families as an insert in the district handbook, but if you misplaced yours, call the office (541-790-8500) and we can make arrangements to get one to you.
