Back To School Newsletter & Documents 2022-2023

Greetings, RMS families:

Welcome back and here we go… ready to start the 2022-23 school year!

We’ll see our 6th grade students on Wednesday, September 7 and look forward to welcoming all students on Thursday, September 8. More information about what to expect the first few days is outlined in our back-to-school newsletter, linked below. Schedules will be available the first day of school.

In this email, you’ll find many documents linked and attached.  Thanks for taking some time to read through and familiarize yourself with the content. This email communication is in lieu of a back-to-school packet we historically have sent in the mail.

Program Updates

We are happy to introduce you to Skye Stier, our new head secretary. She is taking over for Karen Kingzett who served Roosevelt for many years and retired last spring. Skye comes to us from Edison where she was a teaching and office assistant. Skye also has extensive experience at the YMCA supporting student programs across Lane County. She is an organizational whiz, loves kids and is excited for students and staff to be back to school. We can’t wait for you to meet her!

Covid Updates

The Oregon Department of Education in conjunction with the Oregon Health Authority is allowing local districts to determine Covid precautions in schools this fall. This year, we’re starting off without masks and without required social distancing in classrooms and common areas. The UO will continue its testing program on a weekly basis and more information will follow the first week of school. If your student does contract Covid, please call our front office; a five-day quarantine still applies for a positive test result followed by a five-day masking protocol. Information about cohort notification is also forthcoming from the district.

Community Events

Please join us on Tuesday, September 6 for an informal open house event from 6 – 8 pm.  We realize many of our families have never been in our building before so we invite you to take a self-guided tour and pick up information about Parents at Roosevelt (PAR).  Though this won’t be the event to meet teachers, the entire building will be open.

We will host a more formal open house on Tuesday, October 4 with a 6 pm Parents at Roosevelt meeting followed at 7:00 pm by an opportunity to walk your student’s schedule and meet teachers.  This event hasn’t happened since September 2019 and we are thrilled to be planning it!

Our campus clean-up continues! With the support of just a few people every day, we’re slowly making a dent in our overgrown planted areas.  Can you help out, even if it’s for just an hour? Sign up by clicking here and we’ll see you sometime in the next two weeks, August 22– 25 and August 29 – September 2.  Thank you!

Free LTD Pass

In 4J, elementary and middle school students need parent/guardian permission to receive a student transit pass. To get a free LTD student transit pass, fill out the permission form using this link or request a paper copy from the front office. The student transit pass can be used to get anywhere within the LTD service area, including on weekends and after school.

We’re looking forward to reconnecting with families and students as the year gets underway!

All our best,

Courtney and Mike
