State Testing At Roosevelt: Important Information for May 12, 13, 15, & 19

Posted Date: 5/09/25 (:00 AM)

Each Spring, all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders participate in the Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) testing. These tests help guide systems-level decisions and comparisons about instructional efficacy. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders take ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics tests. 8th graders also take the Science test.

Students at Roosevelt will test on M 5/12, T 5/13, Th 5/15, and M 5/19. As we have the last few years, we’ll run a special testing schedule on those days with testing happening in the morning from 9:00 - 10:45 and first period starting at 11.

Please prepare for shortened instructional days– testing in the morning and classes in the afternoon– on testing days. Wednesday 5/14 and Friday 5/16 will be a regular school days.

Please see the schedule below. Plan on sending your student on time for testing to House or to the Dining Hall for unstructured study time. If not testing, your student is also welcome to arrive by 11:00 on Monday 5/12, Tuesday 5/13, Thursday 5/15 , and Monday 5/19

Again, Wednesday 5/14 and Friday 5/16 are regular school days. We are not testing on Friday 5/16 because of a field trip our Track & Field team is taking, which will result in 160+ students out of the building.

Roosevelt uses OSAS test results to help us consider interventions and directions with our curriculum. While OSAS is not the only way in which we measure student growth and classroom assessments remain the most effective way to consider student progress, it is data we consider when writing school-wide goals and planning for improvements. We respect parents’ decision to opt students out and wanted to also share with you when and how we use the data. Thanks for considering this perspective!

Additionally, all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are provided an opportunity to complete the Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey, which asks about access to resources, school connections, and academic opportunities. Click here for more information about OSAS tests, and click here for more details about the SEED survey. RMS students will take the SEED Survey on May 30 during House. SEED Survey Annual Notice & Opt Out Form

You may opt out your child from testing at any time for selected tests and/or the survey. More information on opting out can be found at this link. We also have forms in the front office.
