Hello RMS Families,
It was wonderful to have students back in the building last week! After weeks of preparing, it was really great to see them coming through the door, ready to go for another year. We look forward to welcoming them again this week.
This week, we have an extended House (44 minutes) bell schedule again to do community building (teaching our expectations on Monday) and technology lessons. Please see the bell schedule below. We will start our regular bell schedule on Monday 9/15.
A few reminders as we start the year:
- How You Can Help Us With Cell Phones & Other Devices
- At Roosevelt, cell phones and other electronic devices are off and away in lockers all day. This includes Smart watches. As a staff, we’re committed to an educational environment where students can work and interact with each other free from the distractions these devices can bring. We kindly ask for your support with this endeavor, and we request that families not message their students during the school on their devices, if they have them. If families do need to communicate with students during the school day, please call the office (541-790-8500) and have a note delivered.
- Breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year.
- Coffee, boba, hot chocolate, soda, juice, etc. are not permitted inside the building. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring a water bottle. Roosevelt has filtered water filling stations.

Upcoming Events:
- Please mark your calendar for Thursday, September 18 from 6:00 - 8:25 pm for our Curriculum Night for families. We hope you will come in to meet your student’s teachers, learn about their classes, and hear from administrators. We hope to see you and your student there!
- Cross Country season starts on 9/15. Information can be found on the RMS website under Athletics, linked here. We hope your student will participate!
- 4J Special Education Information Night on September 16 6:00 - 7:00 at the 4j District Office. Please see the flyer below for more information.

As we begin the 2025-26 school year, we are placing a renewed focus on supporting regular attendance. Starting the school year with consistent attendance helps students feel welcomed, connected, and ready to learn—setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
When our staff looks at Roosevelt's data, we see that students who come to school and go to class generally find success. We see this at the high school level as well. Attendance in middle school is critical as students are building habits and practices that carry with them through high school and beyond.
This year, our staff are committed to helping all students come to school and attend their classes. We’re working on this as a school community because we want all our students to be ready for high school.
Moving forward, please don't hesitate to reach out to Kelsea or me if we can support. We want your student to have an excellent school year.
Thanks, all!

Walking, biking, skating, scooting, riding the bus, or carpooling all build independence while supporting health, focus in class, and the environment. If driving is the only option, try parking a few blocks away and having them walk the rest of the way It helps avoid parking lot stress and gives them some physical activity before the day begins.

- Visit 4j.lane.edu/busroutes to find your student's bus route, if they are eligible for a school bus.
- Go to your school office to request a free Lane Transit District annual pass for your student. It's usable year-round and is not just for school travel!
- Interested in e-bikes? Take a look at our tip sheet below with safety strategies and laws for e-bikes.

Free LTD Transit Passes for students!
All students in 4J schools can get a student pass to ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free. Student transit passes can be used to travel anywhere within the LTD service area. Student passes can be used at any time—after school, weekends and during school breaks, as well as to get to and from school each day. To get a free LTD student transit pass middle school students can request their own passes at the front office. Passes are valid through September 30 and renew annually.
LTD free student bus passes should work throughout students’ time at 4j. If you try to use your pass and it doesn’t work, please go to the front office right away with your pass to get it renewed. If you lose your pass or it is stolen, the front office at your school can replace it for you.
