Hello RMS Families,
I hope this message finds you and your family doing well! We are settling into the school year as we begin the third full week of school.
It was really nice to see many of you at our Curriculum Night event last Thursday. It is always nice to be able to welcome our families into the building. Teachers really appreciate the opportunity to meet and connect with their students' families.
I want to echo some positive feedback I shared on Thursday evening about your students and their use (or non-use in this case) of devices on campus. We really appreciate the discussions many of you had with them in advance of the school year about our cell phone policy. Students are doing a good job keeping their devices off and in their lockers. This is true of earbuds as well. I certainly notice it as I walk through the halls. Please let your student know we appreciate their efforts. Our off and away policy is in place because we care deeply about our students, and we want to ensure all of our students engage fully in their educational experience, free from the distractions and off ramps to learning these devices create.
This week in House our affinity groups meetings start, and on Thursday, we begin FLEX. FLEX happens every Thursday during House and is an opportunity for students to meet with a teacher to get extra help and support. Students make their FLEX requests during House on Monday, and teachers also request to see students. Then on Thursday during House, students leave House to meet with those teachers. Students who do not request a teacher and who are not requested by their teachers remain in House during FLEX.
We hope you and your family have a great week! Please do not hesitate to reach out to Kelsea or me if we can support.
Mike & Kelsea

We are a group of high school students dedicated to making positive change in the community. With our tutoring department we will be offering free tutoring services for students in need of extracurricular assistance.
This year we would like more students to get the opportunity to get tutored, and make sure the students are benefiting from it. We have tutors in a series of subjects and are ready to help students however possible.

Hello Student-Athletes and Parents!
My name is Chris Watkins and I am excited to be the head coach at Roosevelt this season. RMS physical education teacher Teresa Barrington will also be coaching with me. We’re looking forward to building a fun team and competing at five meets over the next seven weeks.
There will be a wide range of abilities on the team, and those with no previous running experience are more than welcome and will be eased into mileage and intensity as they can handle over the first few weeks. It’s a short season, but our goal is for everyone to improve greatly in their own fitness and personal goals.
We ask that each student-athlete come prepared for each practice with athletic clothing (shorts and shirt), appropriate shoes for running, and a water bottle. We’d also suggest sending your kids with a pre-practice snack to ensure that they have enough energy after a long day of classes.
We will be sending out updates each week via email.
Thanks for your support and we look forward to a great season!
Coaches Chris and Teresa

Walking, biking, skating, scooting, riding the bus, or carpooling all build independence while supporting health, focus in class, and the environment. If driving is the only option, try parking a few blocks away and having them walk the rest of the way It helps avoid parking lot stress and gives them some physical activity before the day begins.

- Interested in e-bikes? Take a look at our tip sheet below with safety strategies and laws for e-bikes.

Free LTD Transit Passes for students!
All students in 4J schools can get a student pass to ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free. Student transit passes can be used to travel anywhere within the LTD service area. Student passes can be used at any time—after school, weekends and during school breaks, as well as to get to and from school each day. To get a free LTD student transit pass middle school students can request their own passes at the front office. Passes are valid through September 30 and renew annually.
LTD free student bus passes should work throughout students’ time at 4j. If you try to use your pass and it doesn’t work, please go to the front office right away with your pass to get it renewed. If you lose your pass or it is stolen, the front office at your school can replace it for you.
