Hello RMS Families,
I hope this message finds you well!
This week is Volunteer Appreciation Week! On behalf of the RMS staff, thank you to all of our volunteers! We are super grateful for all of our volunteers at Roosevelt!
We are fortunate to have such amazing volunteers who help in so many ways… helping out in the front office, assisting with events like Showcase and Activity Nights, making staff appreciation meals possible, cleaning and organizing the lost & found, helping in classrooms, chaperoning on field trips, and so much more! RMS could not do what we do without the help and support of our many volunteers, and we are deeply appreciative of you all!
Please see below for information on Showcase Roosevelt (yes, volunteer opportunities remain!), state testing, a Let’s Eat Out fundraiser at Chipotle this Tuesday, and more.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Kelsea or me if we can assist with anything.
With gratitude,
Mike & Kelsea

Showcase Roosevelt is this Friday evening! We are looking forward to welcoming families into the building, and we are still seeking volunteers to help out! There are lots of ways to help out, including set up, take down, and everything in between. We hope you'll join us and sign up at this link to volunteer.
This week after school, representatives from PAR will be selling Showcase tickets in advance. Tickets are not required for entry but are used to participate in activities and buy food from 4j Catering.
Showcase is Roosevelt's annual opportunity to show off what's happening at Roosevelt. It's also our biggest fundraiser of the year. Funds raised from Showcase help PAR approve staff grants, purchase supplies for our classrooms and break room, and provide food for Staff Appreciations. We hope you’ll join us!
The RMS Band and Orchestra are playing along with the RMS Staff Band. We’ll have a silent auction, the Roosevelt Circus, Staffle Raffle, pizza, desserts, food trucks, and games to play! This year at Showcase we'll have bingo, face painting, a photo booth, lollipop pull, cornhole, ping pong, and more! We hope to see you there!
Also, if you have any fun photo booth items you wouldn't mind donating (sunglasses, glasses, necklaces, hats, feather boas, suit jackets, ties, bow ties, robes, wigs, anything fun!), the organizers would be appreciative!
Showcase is 6:00 - 8:30 on Friday, April 24th.
The evening kicks off with performances from the Roosevelt Band and Orchestra beginning at 6:00 in the cafeteria! See you there!

Each Spring, all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders participate in the Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) testing. These tests help guide systems-level decisions and comparisons about instructional efficacy. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders take ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics tests. 8th graders also take the Science test. Additionally, all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are provided an opportunity to complete the Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey, which asks about access to resources, school connections, and academic opportunities. Click here for more information about OSAS tests, and click here for more details about the SEED survey or see the document below.
This year, we are changing how we do state assessments at Roosevelt. Students will be testing in their subject area classes (ELA, Math, & Science), and we will not be running a special testing schedule. ELA will test the week of May 4, Math the week of May 11, and Science the week of May 18 (8th grade only).
We gain valuable information about the academic health and wellness of our school from these assessments.
You may opt out your child at any time for selected tests and/or the SEED survey. Opt out forms and additional information can be found online at this link. To opt your child out of the SEED survey, use this form or the document below. Students who opt out will remain in their classroom while their classmates test, maintaining a quiet environment.

Tuesday, April 29, 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the Hilyard Community Center
Eugene 4J Safe Routes to School and the City of Eugene Adaptive Recreation program invite students and families to an Adaptive Bicycle Open House on Wednesday, April 29, 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the Hilyard Community Center.
Come explore a fleet of more than 20 adaptive bicycles designed to meet a wide range of needs. Options include recumbent trikes (for one or two riders), tandems, hand cycles, off-road wheelchairs, and more. It’s a great chance to see what’s possible and try out equipment in a welcoming, low-pressure setting.
Located next to the Amazon Park Path, the Hilyard Community Center offers a safe, car-free space to test ride different bikes. (Note: there are many types of bikes available, but a limited number of smaller sizes.)
This event is ideal for students and family members with ongoing or temporary physical or developmental disabilities and differences. While traditional two-wheel bikes don’t work for everyone, there are many exciting alternatives to explore.
Adaptive bicycles are also available to rent through the City of Eugene Adaptive Recreation program.
Come check it out and find the right ride for you!

We are a group of high school students dedicated to making positive change in the community. With our tutoring department we will be offering free tutoring services for students in need of extracurricular assistance.
This year we would like more students to get the opportunity to get tutored, and make sure the students are benefiting from it. We have tutors in a series of subjects and are ready to help students however possible.

Free LTD Transit Passes for students!
All students in 4J schools can get a student pass to ride Lane Transit District (LTD) buses for free. Student transit passes can be used to travel anywhere within the LTD service area. Student passes can be used at any time—after school, weekends and during school breaks, as well as to get to and from school each day. To get a free LTD student transit pass middle school students can request their own passes at the front office. Passes are valid through September 30 and renew annually.
LTD free student bus passes should work throughout students’ time at 4j. If you try to use your pass and it doesn’t work, please go to the front office right away with your pass to get it renewed. If you lose your pass or it is stolen, the front office at your school can replace it for you.
