Response Required: Upcoming 8th Grade Field Trips: Visit To SEHS & End of Year Celebration at YMCA, Permission Slips & Volunteers Needed

Posted Date: 04/29/26 (04:00 PM)

Hello 8th Grade Families,

I hope this message finds you well!

I'm writing with information about two important end-of-year events/field trips for 8th graders. Parents/guardians will need to sign and return one permission slip that covers both events. The permission slip is attached to this message and also can be picked up in the front office. In addition, we will be sending them home with students on Thursday, April 30. Please return signed permission slips to the front office by Monday, May 11.

In addition, we are in need of parent volunteers to chaperone these events. Volunteering is a great way to be a part of these important end of year activities!

The 8th Grade 'Visit to SEHS' is Thursday, May 21
On Thursday, May 21, our 8th graders will participate in a walking field trip to South Eugene High School for a tour of the school and student panel activity! We have two different groups going... students will be in the morning group or in the afternoon group depending on when they have their language arts class. If your student has language arts in periods 1-3, they will go in the morning group. If your student has language arts in periods 5-7, they will go in the afternoon group.

The morning group will go from 9:15 - 11:30. The afternoon group will go from 1:20 - 3:20.

Parents/guardians can sign up to volunteer at the link below. Parents/guardian must have completed the 4j volunteer application process, linked here

The 8th Grade 'End of Year Celebration' at the YMCA is Friday, June 12 from 9:45 - 12:15.

On Friday, June 12, the last day of school, Roosevelt's 8th graders will be treated to a private 'end of year celebration' at the YMCA.

The YMCA is opening up the pool, gym, and computer/teen spaces for a private event just for Roosevelt 8th graders from 10:00 - 12:15 on the last day of school. We are super grateful to the YMCA for their support and planning for this fun event!

This should be a lot of fun for our 8th graders! Students will return to RMS by 12:30 just before school lets out.

8th graders will report to the cafeteria at 9:45 for attendance and then walk over to the YMCA from there.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Students may not leave early unless a parent makes arrangements with an administrator prior to the event or is present to sign out the student. Eighth graders are expected to follow the school rules of conduct while at the event. If students do not attend school on Friday, they may not attend the YMCA event.

Hi All,

I'm reaching back out as next Thursday, 5/21 is the scheduled visit for our 8th graders to SEHS. We are still in need of parent volunteers to chaperone on the morning and afternoon trips. Specifically, we need 5 for the morning group and four for the afternoon group.

Please see the original post for how to sign up to volunteer and more details, and if your 8th grader has not turned in their permission slip yet, please have them do so as soon as possible.

Thanks, all!

Mike
